Summary

  • Call of Duty sparks outrage for promoting a new store bundle and refusing to acknowledge ongoing game issues.
  • Both Warzone and Black Ops 6's Ranked Play modes have a severe cheating issue that is yet to be fully rectified.
  • Players say Call of Duty is "dying" as the game's player count continues to dwindle on Steam.

A new tweet from the official Call of Duty Twitter account has sparked outrage among the game's community, with over 2 million views and thousands of responses calling out Activision for being unable to "read the room." Various Call of Duty titles, such as Warzone and Black Ops 6, are currently experiencing a variety of game-breaking issues, but Activision's decision to continue promoting new store bundles instead of addressing these ongoing problems has tipped some players over the edge.

The latest Call of Duty game hit store shelves on October 25, 2024, and while Black Ops 6 received rave reviews from critics and players, things appear to have taken a pretty drastic u-turn in recent weeks. Professional Call of Duty players such as Scump have even gone on record and said that the series "has [never] been in a worse spot than it is right now." The overwhelming backlash stems from a variety of issues currently affecting both Black Ops 6 and Warzone, such as hackers in the game's Ranked Play mode, server issues, and more.

Call of Duty Tweet Sparks Outrage

Continuing the recent Call of Duty x Squid Game collaboration, Activision took to the official Call of Duty Twitter account on January 8 to promote a new store bundle based on The VIPs from Squid Game. Unfortunately, this simple promotional tweet took a quick turn as fans blasted Activision for not being able to "read the room." With both Black Ops 6 and Warzone continuing to experience a variety of issues, many believe Call of Duty's social accounts should be acknowledging the issues and not promoting new store bundles.

Plenty of players quickly took issue with the tweet, largely due to Call of Duty's ongoing issues with hackers and cheaters. Content creator FaZe Swagg told Activision to "read the room," while news account CharlieIntel said, "ranked play is so broken to the point where some people can only play 4 games in 4 hours but new bundles are more important right, got it." Twitter user Taeskii also chimed in and said they are refusing to purchase any store bundles until the game's anti-cheat is fixed.

While plenty of players are expressing their disappointment in the comments of the tweet, others appear to be outright quitting the game due to the issues. Since the release of Black Ops 6 in October last year, Call of Duty's player count has declined massively on Steam. There's no way to know if players are also declining on platforms such as PlayStation and Xbox, but over 47% of players have quit Black Ops 6 on Steam since its release, likely due to hackers and server issues.

Forced to go rogue. Hunted from within. This is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.

The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.

In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.

Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
