Activision has confirmed that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 start date is Wednesday, December 6, so fans should definitely circle that date on their calendars. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has proven to be a controversial entry in the long-running first-person shooter franchise. While many fans have been enjoying MW3 multiplayer, its other game modes have either been divisive or outright rejected.

The Call of Duty: MW3 campaign has been almost universally panned by fans and critics alike, with many calling it the worst Call of Duty campaign in history. The reaction to Modern Warfare 3's Zombies mode has been more mixed. There are some that have enjoyed Modern Warfare 3's unique open world Zombies approach, while others have complained that it doesn't scratch the same itch as classic round-based Zombies.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sets a date for when players can get their hands on Double Weapon, Player, and Battle Pass XP in-game.

While Modern Warfare 3 reviews have not been the best out of the gate, Activision plans on supporting the game for the long haul with regular new updates that should greatly improve the experience. The first significant post-launch update for Modern Warfare 3 will come on Wednesday, December 6, which will see the launch of Season 1. Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 will include new maps for standard multiplayer, the debut of Urzikstan in the Warzone battle royale, and more.

Call of Duty: MW3 Season 1 Start Date

  • Wednesday, December 6

Activision recently confirmed that Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 will kick off on Wednesday, December 6. Prior to the MW3 Season 1 start date announcement, Activision teased fans about what they can expect, confirming new maps, modes, and more coming with the big Season 1 update.

Call of Duty: MW3 Season 1 New Maps List

  • Meat (6v6)
  • Greece (6v6)
  • Training Facility (2v2)

When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 launches on December 6, fans will have three new multiplayer maps to check out. Meat and Greece will be new 6v6 maps, with Meat described as being a "compact" map. Meat is set in a butcher shop, whereas Greece is a medium-sized map set in a coastal town. Training Facility, meanwhile, will also be available with the Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 launch, coming as the game's first Gunfight map.

Gunfight is the hugely popular 2v2 game mode that first made its debut in the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot. Gunfight was missing from the 2022 Modern Warfare 2 game at launch, but eventually made its return in that game. Likewise, Gunfight has been nowhere to be found in Modern Warfare 3 since launch, but that will change with the big Season 1 update on December 6. It's been teased that some returning Gunfight maps will also be featured, but for now, the new Training Facility map is all that's been confirmed.

Future updates will bring even more maps to Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer. It's been confirmed that Shipment is coming to MW3 in a future update, plus the brand-new Rio map will be a part of Season 1 Reloaded. Season 1 Reloaded doesn't have a start date at the time of this writing, but it will come at some point in 2024.

MW3 Zombies Getting Updated With Season 1

It's safe to say that the vast majority of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players are going to be focused on what Season 1 means for the game's multiplayer component. However, others may be more interested in what's in store for the Zombies game mode. Season 1 will see the Modern Warfare 3 Zombies mode storyline continue, with the introduction of Dark Aether Rifts that will include timed challenges. Players can also add a modified take on the V-R11 Wonder Weapon to their arsenal, which makes it possible to transform both Zombies and AI-controlled human mercenaries into allies. Players can look forward to new acquisition schematics and more with Zombies in Season 1, though the full run-down has not been revealed at the time of this writing.

New Call of Duty: Warzone Map Coming With MW3 Season 1

Battle royale fans will also want to make sure that December 6 is circled on their calendars, as that's the day the new Urzikstan map will debut in Call of Duty: Warzone. Anyone that wants a sneak peek of what the Urzikstan Warzone map is like can pop into Modern Warfare 3 Zombies while they wait for December 6 to roll around, as the map is already featured in that game mode.

Urzikstan's debut in Call of Duty: Warzone will coincide with a huge change to the game's movement. As those that have already played Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer will know, the game has made some significant changes to movement compared to MW2, like adding slide canceling back to the mix. Hardcore Warzone players will likely be happy to see MW3 multiplayer movement incorporated into Warzone, and they will be able to see how it all works come December 6.
