Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is celebrating Valentine's Day this weekend, bringing back Gunfight Tournaments and doubling XP gain in some playlists. It's not a major event, as Modern Warfare only just began Season Two and there's plenty of other new content to dig into. That isn't slowing the Games as a Service machine, however. Infinity Ward is already preparing for what's coming next, teasing next week's plans as part of the latest Modern Warfare Community Update.
To start, Infinity Ward cracks a joke about how Valentine's Day may not have gone so well for some players. For those not looking for a Gunfight partner, next week's update has something special. A brand new 1v1 playlist set entirely on the new Season Two map Rust is in the works.
This isn't the first time Modern Warfare has done a 1v1 playlist. In early January there was a 1v1 Gunfight playlist for a short time. Limiting the mode to just Rust should make for a much more competitive experience.
1v1 Rust isn't all that Infinity Ward is teasing for next week, though. It's also going to introduce a new playlist for NVG Reinforce. Reinforce is a unique gametype where players don't immediately respawn after being eliminated. Instead, dead teammates can be respawned if a teammate captures one of three flags on the map. Capturing all three flags is an instant win, or players can race to 4 pts with each flag capture being a single point. NVG adds some flavor to the match. It stands for Night Vision Goggles.
The only other teaser for next week that Infinity Ward drops is that there may be another opportunity for double weapon XP. To be fair, this might just be a crude Valentine's Day joke. Infinity Ward has been very generous with double XP so far though, so expect something next week.
Beyond just next week there's a whole lot to look forward to in Modern Warfare Season Two. There are two new Operators, Talon and Mace, currently in development. There's both a new multiplayer map and a new Gunfight map. Plus, there's another new weapon being worked on. Infinity Ward is known to surprise players, too. With Modern Warfare seasons lasting just over two months, that's a lot of content in a relatively short time. Fans are getting great value.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
