A new pack of skins recently announced for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is leaving some players utterly disgusted. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to jump into its fourth season on May 29, and the four skins contained in its Tracer Pack: Emoting seem to be eliciting anger from a large portion of the game's fan base.

There are more than 100 rewards coming to Modern Warfare 3 in Season 4, many of them purchasable, including new skins, weapons, and blueprints. These unique items include six different Tracer Packs, three of which are are based on classic mecha combat anime Mobile Suit Gundam, but it's the four unsettling emojis that seem to be drawing the most attention.

The four operator skins coming in Tracer Pack: Emoting all resemble versions of classic yellow-faced emojis, but with grotesque twists. The Cursed skin features a toothy smile and dead-eyed stare, the Dead Inside and Out skin has fleshy X-shaped marks over its closed eyelids, the Tongue Out, Guns Out skin features a thick, fleshy tongue and one winking red eye, and the Seeing Stars skin features a similar smile to the others and cut-out wooden star shapes placed over its eyes. The vast majority of fans on Reddit do not seem amused by these skins, citing a number of reasons for disliking them, from their sickening appearance to Modern Warfare 3's further movement away from realistic military combat.

Fans are Disgusted by Modern Warfare Emoting Skins

Microtransactions have been upsetting Call of Duty fans for a long time, and that doesn't seem to have changed with the advent of the new season. Aside from the payment structure of acquiring new skins and the repugnant feelings brought about by the emojis' grotesque visual elements, some players are accusing the developers of ignoring the game's core player base and trying to attract younger players, who they believe the "goofy" skins are aimed at. One commenter even postulated that developer Sledgehammer may be introducing such skins to gradually ruin its game and push players into purchasing the next release in the series.

Other players who seem to appreciate the franchise for the realism of its military combat scenarios expressed their displeasure with Call of Duty Tracer Packs, which have been adding non-traditional elements to the game long before the 2023 version of Modern Warfare 3 was released. One fan received a lot of likes for calling the existence of the Emoting pack "The Fortnite effect," and others have offered their opinion that the developers are moving the game away from what the majority of its core fan base seems to want. "They're slowly moving toward having wall running and jetpacks again, which is why everyone stopped playing Call of Duty the first time."
