  • Sledgehammer Games has been listening to player demands thus far, so there's hope for Gunfight Tournaments if demand is high.

Fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 are calling for the long-lost Gunfight Tournaments mode to make a return in the new game. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 continues to experiment with various limited-time modes, and the return of Gunfight Tournaments would make some players extremely happy.

Gunfight Tournaments were first added in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), and made a return in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The mode took the standard Gunfight rules, in which two teams of two compete to eliminate the other in just 40 seconds, and put them into a tournament format. Here, 16 teams would sign up for a four-round bracket, including a Preliminary Round, a Quarter-Final Round, a Semi-Final Round, and a Final Round, fighting their way through to become the champion and earn some exclusive rewards. It gave each game an extra competitive twist, which was perfect for some sections of the community. However, it hasn't been seen since it was added to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Rumor: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies May Not Receive Any More Enemies or Perks

A reputable Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 leaker claims that the popular Zombies mode might not receive additional content in the future.

The return of Gunfight Tournaments was brought up by Redditor KombatKiller, which led to many others in the game's community reminiscing about their memories of the mode. It also led to others in the thread asking for similar features to come to Gunfight, such as the addition of all maps from the previous two Call of Duty: Modern Warfare titles. One player disagreed, at least for the time being, claiming, "Let's bring back getting the game online first," referencing the recent major Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 technical issues, which now seem to have settled down.

Fans Want Gunfight Tournaments in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Gunfight was added to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as part of Season 1, but isn't available for any type of competitive play. While it's certainly fun to jump into Gunfight, not having the option to add that competitive edge to the mode will put a lot of players off jumping back into the action. Even if the tournament brackets don't come back, giving it some sort of rank to fight for might suffice for many.

Despite the mixed reception to the game, Sledgehammer Games continues to release new playlists for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, including the recent "Best of '09" throwback playlist, which may bring some players back into the fold. It's clear that bringing back maps and modes that players want is a priority for the developer, as seen by the number of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps included in the newest title. Because of this, there's definitely a solid chance that Gunfight Tournaments could return if the community demand was loud enough. Right now, though, nothing is set in stone in this regard.
