Summary
- Activision confirms double XP tokens are not transferable from Modern Warfare 3 to Black Ops 6.
- Double XP tokens can still be transferred between Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone.
- Call of Duty fans are angered at the decision after accumulating dozens of double XP tokens.
Activision has confirmed that all double XP tokens earned in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will not be transferable to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 when the shooter launches on October 25. While the transition between 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 and 2023’s Modern Warfare 3 saw all double XP tokens transferred between the two titles, players will now only be able to use their current tokens in either Modern Warfare 3 or Warzone.
As the launch of Black Ops 6 is fast approaching, developer Sledgehammer Games is winding down support for Call of Duty’s current entry, Modern Warfare 3. Although servers will continue to remain operational, Season 6 will be Modern Warfare 3’s last. The massive content update will go live on September 18 and add a plethora of new content for multiplayer fans and Warzone veterans, including new maps, weapons, cosmetic bundles, and much more.

A notable source reveals that the Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile team was directly impacted by the recent round of layoffs at Microsoft.
Double XP Tokens Not Transferable from MW3 to BO6
Unfortunately, all double XP tokens accumulated in Modern Warfare 3 will not be transferable to Black Ops 6, Activision has confirmed to multiple content creators such as CharlieIntel. The studio has stated that any double XP tokens earned by players, which includes rank, weapon, and Battle Pass, will only be transferred to Warzone and will not be usable in Black Ops 6 multiplayer or Zombies. Players looking to make use of any double XP tokens within the upcoming shooter will need to earn them in-game first.
Call of Duty Fans Angered at Lack of Double XP Transfers
In response to the news, fans called the decision “lame,” while one user said that Activision was once again going one step forward and two steps back.
Activision’s refusal to transfer double XP tokens from Modern Warfare 3 to Black Ops 6 has angered the community, but it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. When players transitioned to Modern Warfare 3 from its 2022 predecessor, Activision allowed the community to continue using all of their purchased bundles and unlocked weapons as part of its new Carry Forward feature. But with the upcoming release of Black Ops 6, Activision has opted to ditch the controversial Call of Duty feature. This means that no weapons or cosmetic items from Modern Warfare 3 will be usable in Black Ops 6, but fans, apparently, weren’t expecting this to apply to all of their double XP tokens.
In response to the news, fans called the decision “lame,” while one user said that Activision was once again going one step forward and two steps back. However, a large portion of the community has begun speculating that it may be possible to activate the double XP tokens within Warzone and then jump back into Black Ops 6 multiplayer to make use of them, as this was previously possible in the days of Black Ops Cold War. As this is likely something Activision wants to avoid, there’s no way to know if the tactic will work until Black Ops 6 is released in October.
