Fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are noticing that Semtex appears to be completely broken in the game. In the past, Semtex has been at the heart of some incredible Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 clips, but this latest issue is not as fun for players to experience.
Upon its initial release in late 2022, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was a hit, with strong sales for Infinity Ward's latest title. While the post-launch support has been strong, it appears to not be enough for the community. In recent weeks, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 player count has dropped dramatically, even with the release of Season 2 Reloaded. Gamers have their theories about why, with Infinity Ward facing plenty of criticism for not listening to the fan base on many key issues. Perhaps most importantly, the developer's approach to playlists isn't loved by the community, with the fan-favorite Shipment 24/7 playlist constantly being rotated in and out of the game.
The clip showing off the issue with Semtex in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was posted by Redditor DingDingDongDotJPG, in which the grenade sticks to enemies, yet it doesn't kill them. Even with the Bomb Squad perk, which reduces explosive damage received, Semtex is supposed to be a one-hit kill upon sticking to an enemy. Since the item's first appearance in 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it has worked in exactly the same way. In these clips, the player even gets a "Stuck!" Medal, which should guarantee the kill.
While the Redditor seemed to think it could be down to a Semtex nerf, others in the thread confirmed it wasn't a planned change, and instead appears to be a glitch. Some noticed that the Semtex glitch only seemed to be happening in Hardcore Mode, and could be a problem with the change in damage between modes. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's Hardcore Mode only made its return in Season 2 of the game, so it lines up with the recent nature of the reports. It's unknown if Infinity Ward is aware of the issue with Semtex, or if it plans to fix it at some point in the future.
With the game's falling player count, the next few months will be essential for the future of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Infinity Ward has been quiet about their plans so far, but some leaks have suggested that fan-favorite characters could return in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's Season 3. Whether it'll be enough to win over the fan base remains to be seen, however, the developer should focus on fixing glitches such as this Semtex problem first.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
