It seems a future update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 could finally be adding two fan favorite game modes in the form of Gun Game and Gunfight. Call of Duty games routinely launch without some of the most popular multiplayer game modes, only to add them back into the mix post-launch in seasonal updates. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 seems to be continuing that trend, as it's already added new modes post-launch and has more on the way.Recently, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 data miner BKTOOR5 unearthed icons that suggested the Cranked and Plunder game modes would be added to the new game. Neither mode has actually been announced at the time of this writing, but the existence of the icons certainly suggests that they are at the very least being considered for Modern Warfare 2. Now, as spotted by PC Invasion, BKTOOR5 has found even more icons potentially leaking additional new game modes for Modern Warfare 2. The latest icons leaked by BKTOOR5 are seemingly for the fan favorite Gun Game and Gunfight game modes, strongly implying that they will be added to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as part of a future update. Gun Game, for the uninitiated, has been a popular mode since it was introduced in the original Call of Duty: Black Ops. The concept is simple: all players start with the same gun, and getting kills with that gun allows them to progress to the next one. The first player who manages to get a kill with every weapon wins. Whereas Gun Game is a party game, Gunfight, meanwhile, is far more competitive, offering 2v2 or 3v3 matches where players only get one life per round.
Gunfight was first introduced to the Call of Duty franchise with the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot, and so it was largely assumed that it would be in the new game, especially considering how popular it was a few years ago. Unfortunately, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer experience launched with no Gunfight in sight, though this leak is encouraging for fans of the game mode.
Gun Game, meanwhile, is a given for any main series Call of Duty game eventually, though for one reason or another, it is routinely missing from multiplayer playlists at launch. It's unclear why Call of Duty keeps leaving Gun Game out of the mix at launch, but hopefully fans don't have to wait much longer to see the mode make its long-awaited debut in Modern Warfare 2.
As for when these game modes could be added to Modern Warfare 2, that's really anyone's guess. Right now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is in the midst of Season 1 Reloaded, which added Shipment to the game, but Season 2 is set to start in February. Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 remains a mystery at this point, but there is certainly a possibility that it will add these game modes to the mix when it launches next month.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
