One gamer learned the hard way just how much attention to detail developer Infinity Ward included in its wildly successful military shooter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, sharing an amusing clip of themselves ending up on the wrong end of a high-flying care package. Infinity Ward recently released a new update for the popular shooter, though some players have been reporting problems with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 since the update’s release on May 16.
Released in October 2022, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the nineteenth entry in Activision’s long-running Call of Duty series. The game’s campaign mode continues the story from 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, featuring appearances from iconic Call of Duty characters like Captain Price and Lieutenant Simon “Ghost” Riley. While the campaign was well-received by players and critics, the main draw for many gamers - as it has been for years with the franchise - is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer mode. Despite the addition of new maps, weapons, and gameplay modes to the online battlefield, the presence of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer bugs continue to be a source of frustration for many players.
In a hilarious new post on r/ModernWarfareII, Redditor Ham_Ducktor shared a clip of themselves making a painful discovery about the physics of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s care packages. Obtainable as a killstreak reward, care packages in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are helicopter-dropped containers that contain weapons and other items that can help turn the tide of battle. Normally landing on the ground with a slight bounce, Ham_Ducktor learned the hard way that care packages apparently have a bit more bounce on certain surfaces. The clip shows their recently called-in care package landing on a pile of tires and immediately bouncing high into the air before coming down for a deadly landing squarely on top of Ham_Ducktor’s head.
Several fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 responding to the enlightening, but unexpectedly fatal, discovery found the clip hilarious. Referencing Ham_Ducktor’s rabbit operator skin, multiple posts joked that, like Bugs Bunny’s long-time nemesis Elmer Fudd, the care package must have been “Hunting Wabbits.” Another response linked a clip showing the same thing happening to another player, questioning if the care package’s comically large bounce may be an issue with the map rather than the tires the package landed on. One commenter was decidedly less amused by the footage, citing it as an example of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 being a broken game.
While getting crushed to death by a care package that was meant to help them certainly wasn’t what Ham_Ducktor was expecting when they called in the perk, at least the grisly outcome made for hilarious viewing. And even though getting squashed by one’s own supplies doesn’t make for a proud moment, at least it’s less embarrassing than the player who was shamed by their child for their Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 stats.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
