Activision Blizzard recently revitalized the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series with 2019's release and developers may be working on a sequel. According to a rumor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will include some new features such as a game mode that may rival Battlefield 2042's Hazard Zone.
EA has unveiled several details about the upcoming Battlefield 2042 multiplayer, from what specialists fans will play as and Battlefield Portal which allows players to choose what era of weapons and vehicles to play with. One of the Battlefield 2042 game modes is called Hazard Zone and it includes a mix of PvP and PvE where squads of four will compete with each other to acquire data drives from downed satellites. Although Call of Duty: Vanguard is about to release, rumors are already circulating about a similar game mode joining the next title in the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Battlefield 2042 fans will be able to play Hazard Zone on all seven of the major maps at launch and Activision Blizzard is supposedly planning to rival that with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. According to a rumor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's changes to the Warzone map will offer Call of Duty's version of Hazard Zone. The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 game mode is currently unnamed but it's possible that because it's part of the Warzone experience, Call of Duty fans won't need to purchase the next title in order to experience this new game mode.
Similar to Battlefield 2042's unveiled Hazard-Zone game mode, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will allegedly feature objective-based missions in its new game mode. The Warzone map may be changing to accommodate the new game mode coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but players that choose to only play the battle royale game mode shouldn't feel anything is missing. The unnamed game mode will likely join the Warzone rotation of modes similar to Plunder or Rebirth Island.
The Call of Duty series is known for going beyond the campaign and multiplayer modes, with the co-op horde mode known as Spec Ops being one of the game modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. In Spec Ops, Call of Duty fans are similarly tasked with capturing objectives while enemy AI try to stop them. It's likely that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's new game mode for Warzone will include elements that will feel familiar to long-time fans who have experience with Spec Ops.
Call of Duty fans who are curious about what the new game mode coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's sequel will look like may only have to look at Battlefield 2042's Hazard Zone. According to EA, Hazard Zone will have five phases, with two drives to extract from objectives that are guarded by enemy AI. The five phases include equipping, deploying, retrieving, and extracting. The new Call of Duty game mode may be replacing the popular Zombies game mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is rumored to be in development.
