Summary
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will continue to release weird skins despite some fan displeasure.
- The game includes fantastical cosmetics, with Operator Skins being the primary target of criticism.
- Treyarch plans to prioritize entertainment over realism in cosmetics, staying true to the Black Ops series' bizarre elements.
During a recent interview, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Associate Creative Director Miles Leslie confirmed that weird skins will continue to be released. Some Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 fans have expressed displeasure over some of the cosmetic options, but they are here to stay.
Multiple Call of Duty titles have been released with military cosmetics, eventually introducing more intricate skins, Weapon Blueprints, and more through updates. Some games that have included such cosmetics are Call of Duty: Vanguard, Modern Warfare 2, Warzone, and more. While earlier games had Supply Drops featuring their own fantastical cosmetics, this became more common when Call of Duty's in-game shop was expanded. While Weapon Blueprints are sometimes the target of ridicule from fans that dislike the departure from realism, Operator Skins are the primary source. One Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 developer recently went into detail on why these cosmetics won't be going anywhere despite this portion of the community rallying against them.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Player Discovers Method to See Hidden Skill Rating
A Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 player discovers a secret method that reveals a myriad of in-game statistics, including a per-game skill rating.
Dexerto recently interviewed Treyarch's Associate Creative Director, Miles Leslie, regarding Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. During this interview, Leslie confirmed that fun will continue to be prioritized over realistic skins, and the studio likes to "break the rules" in favor of entertainment. According to Leslie, Black Ops 6's campaign focuses on "era-specific" looks for its characters, but the Multiplayer provides the team with more cosmetic freedom. Despite some players' worries, Treyarch plans to "stay grounded" in its core gameplay to ensure the latest Call of Duty maintains the Black Ops DNA. Leslie also suggests that new looks and lore can be established for the Rogue Black Ops and Crimson One using post-launch content.
Although the fantastical cosmetics will continue to be added to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, some fans have expressed displeasure over them. These fans find the cosmetics a departure from the game's original vision, but Miles Leslie reminded players that the Black Ops series has always included bizarre elements, like in its storytelling and the Zombies game mode. Unlike the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series, which focuses more on realistic military elements, Black Ops games have historically included time travel, alternate timelines, and hallucinations. As Black Ops 6's story continues into the Multiplayer, the cosmetics are given proper context when gamers complete the Campaign.
Some Call of Duty fans have called for a menu option to disable the fantastical cosmetics, but this wasn't addressed during the interview. Though some gamers are distracted by some Operator Skins, others may have purchased them with the intent of being a distraction. Because Treyarch continues to update Black Ops 6 with fresh content, these cosmetics will continue to be shown off, and new ones will be added.

Forced to go rogue. Hunted from within. This is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.
The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.
In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
