Call of Duty's 2023 installment continues the retold Modern Warfare story, following Task Force 141 members Captain John Price, Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish, Sergeant Kyle "Gaz" Garrick, and Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley as they attempt to recapture the recently escaped terrorist leader Vladimir Makarov. Players can also dive into Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer and explore new mechanics like the tactical stance and new game modes like Cutthroat and War Mode, with veteran players of the series getting a huge dose of nostalgia with the 12 maps available on launch - all of which are remastered versions of the original multiplayer maps from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009).

Modern Warfare 3 also delivers the first-ever Modern Warfare Zombies experience - taking elements of Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War's Outbreak Zombies mode and Warzone 2.0 DMZ and smashing them together for a massive multiplayer massacre. Across all these game modes, Call of Duty snuck in the capacity to play in third-person, a completely new perspective to the Call of Duty franchise. Players can quickly toggle between first and third perspectives, but players will only get this capability in one of Modern Warfare 3's game modes.z

Gear up for deployment with Modern Warfare 3: Zombies acquisitions and schematics - here's how to get more of the bonus items.

Players Can Play Modern Warfare Zombies in Third Person

Despite all the content available in Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer and campaign, including custom loadouts and non-linear open combat area missions, the third-person perspective can only be activated in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies. After players gear up and drop into Urzikstan, players can use the rucksack button to toggle third-person playstyle. Hold the rucksack button (typically down on the D-pad on Xbox or PlayStation or 3 on PC - be sure to double-check your button layout if using custom input configurations) and the can will zoom out to an over-the-shoulder style aiming method, similar to Fortnite or Resident Evil.

Using a third-person perspective has some benefits, including giving players the ability to see a small distance behind them and better multi-directional awareness with the ability to sprint in one direction while looking at another. This can be incredibly useful when trying to navigate through higher threat tier areas while still keeping an eye out for loot crates and incoming enemies. Players can also use the sprint input to change shoulders when aiming over the shoulder in third person.

In exchange for the increased visual awareness, players will have to sacrifice the ability to precisely aim using the typical ADS mechanics or the tac-stance function, using an over-the-shoulder expanded crosshair when aiming in third-person. Players can quickly switch between the two perspectives to adjust to the situation, giving them an additional tool to help fight the hordes and survive to exfil.
