Activision finally pulled back the curtain on Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 during Gamescom Opening Night Live, but the game's latest trailer appears to be doing nothing more than pushing fans into pre-ordering Battlefield 6. As 2025 will be the first time in four years that the two series are going head-to-head, many are eager to see if Call of Duty will continue to dominate with the launch of Black Ops 7, or if EA's new Battlefield game truly is the return to form that it's aiming for.

The true test will come later this year, when both Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 are officially released. However, the former appears to be off to a flying start, as the Battlefield 6 open beta has already been smashing records. According to EA, the beta was the biggest playtest in Battlefield history, which isn't much of a surprise considering the shooter peaked at over 521,000 concurrent players on Steam during its opening weekend, surpassing Call of Duty's all-time peak on the platform, which occurred nearly three years ago.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's New Trailer Is Great News for Battlefield 6

After a mind-bending reveal trailer back in June, Activision finally showed off Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 to the world during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19. Unfortunately, the trailer seems to be receiving tons of backlash and hate, with one comment in particular (which has amassed nearly 40,000 likes) stating, "This actually made me pre-order Battlefield 6." This wasn't the only comment of a similar nature either, as others said the trailer is the "best advertisement for Battlefield 6," and another user said, "From a [Call of Duty] player, thank you for making it easy to choose [Battlefield 6]."

While YouTube automatically hides the dislikes on videos, users have been using extensions to view the statistic, and it's not good. The numbers won't be 100% accurate, but the trailer appears to have racked up nearly 100,000 dislikes at the time of writing. Given that many of the comments seem to be discussing their desire to pre-order Battlefield 6, it's no surprise that the trailer has so many dislikes. Exactly what it is about the trailer that has fans so unhappy will likely vary, but its futuristic gameplay in a time where fans are calling for the series to take a more grounded approach is likely a core reason.

Unrealistic cosmetic items in Call of Duty have long been a significant topic of discussion, but the community finally appears to be giving up on the franchise as their complaints and requests continue to go unheard. While this issue can be traced back all the way to the days of Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 6 took the series in a completely new direction with a constant feed of unrealistic weapon blueprints, operator skins, and more. And with Activision now confirming that all of these items will carry forward to Black Ops 7 with Season 1, fans appear to be eager to switch over to Battlefield 6, which is taking a much more grounded and realistic approach to both its gameplay and cosmetics.
