  • The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Black Ops 6 lack Theater Mode.
  • No reason was given as to why the older consoles won't have Theater Mode.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will not have access to Theater Mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 recently did a deep dive on all of its major game modes, confirming what fans can expect from Zombies, the single-player campaign, and, of course, the franchise's signature online multiplayer experience.

Call of Duty fans with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or those willing to pre-order the game can jump in to the Black Ops 6 early access beta right now, with an open beta test planned for next week. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 multiplayer retains the franchise's trademarks, but also includes major changes like omnimovement.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Makes Major Change to Aim Assist

A long-tenured Treyarch developer confirms that tweaks and a major change to aim assist has been made to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

One feature returning from previous Call of Duty games is Theater Mode, which lets players watch gameplay of their matches. Theater Mode was first introduced in the original Black Ops back in 2010, and so it's fitting that it's making its return in Black Ops 6 14 years later. However, it's since been clarified that Theater Mode will be exclusive to the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, skipping PS4 and Xbox One entirely. No explanation was given as to why Black Ops 6 won't have Theater Mode on PS4 or Xbox One.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on PS4 and Xbox One Won't Have Theater Mode

Gamers that have yet to upgrade to newer consoles will no doubt be disappointed to hear that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on PS4 and Xbox One will be missing Theater Mode, but others will be disappointed that the game is releasing on older consoles at all. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 being a cross-gen game means that the franchise is still not really taking full advantage of the newer hardware and has one foot stuck in the past. There have been calls for Call of Duty to no longer be cross-gen, but it's unclear when that will ever happen. It's possible that the Call of Duty game releasing in 2025 will finally leave the PS4 and Xbox One behind, but there's no guarantee of that happening.

Call of Duty fans don't need to worry about the 2025 entry in the long-running first-person shooter franchise until next year. For now, they can keep their focus on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which is set to launch on October 25. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is bringing back round-based Zombies, boasts an action-packed single-player campaign, and is set to feature 16 brand-new multiplayer maps at launch. It certainly has a lot of potential to be one of the better Call of Duty games in years, but fans will have to wait until October 25 to see if it lives up to the hype.

Forced to go rogue. Hunted from within. This is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.

The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.

In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.

Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
