Summary

  • Activision extends Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Squid Game event.
  • The event was due to end on January 24 but will now end on January 28, the same day as Season 2.
  • Squid Game modes such as Red Light, Green Light and the controversial event pass will remain in-game until Season 2 begins.

Activision has extended the Squid Game event in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone until the beginning of Season 2, which kicks off on January 28. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Squid Game event began on Friday, January 3, and brought with it plenty of new cosmetic items, modes, weapon blueprints, and more. While the event was originally scheduled to run for four weeks and end on Friday, January 24, Activision appears to have extended the event by a few extra days.

While both seasons of Squid Game have been a massive success for Netflix, the new Call of Duty event has been rather controversial. While many believed the pricing of the Squid Game skins was too expensive, it was the newly introduced event pass that irritated players the most. When the event kicked off earlier this month, Call of Duty players had the option to purchase a new Squid Game event pass for 1,100 COD Points. While there is also a free version of the pass available to all players, various cosmetic items such as the Front Man operator skin were locked behind the pass. With so many different microtransactions and battle passes already available in Call of Duty, fans believed this was a step too far.

Activision Extends Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Squid Game Event

The rewards in Call of Duty's Squid Game event pass can be earned relatively quickly, as players simply need to earn a total of 356,000 XP to earn every reward. While this might sound like a lot, many players have already completed the pass after just a few days. But for those who have yet to unlock all of the available rewards, Activision has officially extended the event until January 28. While the studio has yet to make an official announcement regarding the extension, the in-game event tab now states that it will end in four days, which coincides with the release of Season 2 on January 28.

While Call of Duty players are able to unlock new Squid Game operator skins via the new event pass, Activision has also released various store bundles during the duration of the event. The famous Pink Guards, Masked VIPs, and Young-Hee can all be purchased in separate bundles, while the Front Man, Player 115, and Player 006 operator skins are available via the event pass. Whether or not the Squid Game bundles will remain in the store until Season 2 begins is currently unknown.

The event's extension will give fans a few extra days to play some of the new Squid Game-themed modes such as Red Light, Green Light. It also gives players the opportunity to get their hands on the Front Man operator skin, which is the final reward for the premium event pass. The new skin caused quite the concern among Call of Duty players when it was first revealed, as many believed the fully blacked-out operator would be "pay-to-win," similar to the Roze skin in the rebooted Modern Warfare series.

Forced to go rogue. Hunted from within. This is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.

The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.

In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.

Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
