- Recon is a divisive Combat Specialist feature in Black Ops 6, with some calling it "game-breaking" while others believe it simply needs a counter perk.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players are calling for developer Treyarch Studios to either completely remove the popular Recon perk from the game, or buff another perk with the ability to counter it. Call of Duty's weapons and perks often require a few balance adjustments after launch, but Black Ops 6's Recon perk is proving to be so divisive that some fans believe it has no place in multiplayer matches.
Although the latest Call of Duty title is only one week old, Black Ops 6 is already proving to be a massive success for Treyarch and publisher Activision. Thanks to a helping hand from Xbox Game Pass, Black Ops 6 is officially the biggest Call of Duty release in history, which is massively impressive when you take into account that the franchise has been going since 2003. It isn't just Call of Duty that has benefited from the launch of Black Ops 6 either, as Microsoft's CEO says the game's launch attracted plenty of new subscribers to its much-loved Game Pass service.

Black Ops 6's Recon Perk Divides Community
Before the title had even launched, Black Ops 6 sparked controversy for bringing back Last Stand, a controversial perk that allows players to have a second chance at redemption by entering a "last stand" state when killed. But now that the game is officially out, players are realizing that there's a much worse perk being abused by players: Recon. Over on Reddit, DrAdBrule took to the Black Ops 6 subreddit to state that the perk "needs to go." While they did say they were enjoying the game overall, the user believes no re-work or re-balancing could make Recon a fair perk and that is simply needs to go as it is "game-breaking."
Unlike traditional perks in the Call of Duty series, Recon is part of Black Ops 6's new Combat Specialist feature. When a player equips three of the same perk types in all three slots (these are indicated by their color scheme: red, blue, and green) they will be rewarded with a special combat bonus. One of these is Recon, which can be activated by equipping three blue perks to a player's loadout. When equipped, Recon allows players to see enemies through walls for a short period of time after respawning, it also obscures death skulls when killing an enemy and has a HUD feature where the side of the screen flashes when an enemy is looking at the player while outside of their view, similar to Warzone's High Alert perk.
Recon is undeniably one of the best perks in Black Ops 6 right now, which means not everybody wants to see it removed from the game. In response to the Reddit user's post, plenty of players said that it simply needs a counter perk, like Ghost or Cold Blooded. Reddit user Haboob_AZ said that Recon is "a stupid idea" and while they like making the most of High Alert, they believe Treyarch should get rid of the ability to see enemy positions. But not everybody feels the same, as another user said they are "more than happy for [Recon] to stay in the game" as it helps them counter spawn campers.

Forced to go rogue. Hunted from within. This is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.
The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.
In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
