The open beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is coming to Xbox Game Pass owners. Xbox previously announced plans to launch the beta on all platforms in an announcement earlier this year. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 marks the first Call of Duty game that’s being released under Microsoft after it finalized a deal to acquire Activision Blizzard on October 13, 2023.

The Black Ops 6 open beta dates were announced on July 15, but were leaked ahead of time after being spotted on the Xbox website for a brief period. The dates were announced for August 30 to September 4 for early access. Then there will be an open beta from September 6 to September 9, with no purchase or subscription required.

In a blog post on August 20, Xbox announced that the Black Ops 6 beta will soon be available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Starting August 28, fans who own a subscription to either Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass will be able to download the beta ahead of time with no additional purchase required. Fans on all platforms will be able to play the Black Ops 6 multiplayer beta on August 30 for those who pre-ordered the game, including those who own a Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription. This will be the first new Call of Duty game to come out day one on Xbox Game Pass.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta on all platforms has been seen as a big win for everyone involved. Some fans have expressed concerns in the past that the popular Call of Duty franchise would become an Xbox exclusive after the historic acquisition of Activision Blizzard. These concerns were quelled when Microsoft signed a multi-year agreement with Sony that was announced on July 16, 2023 to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation platforms.

When Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard, the impact on Microsoft’s revenue was massive, as its gaming division saw a huge increase in profits after the deal went through. Rumors started to circulate about the future of the Call of Duty franchise when it came to the acquisition. Modern Warfare 3 joined Xbox Game Pass on July 24, along with Warzone, as the first Call of Duty game to arrive on the subscription service. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is expected to release on PS5, Xbox, and PC on October 25, 2024.
