Activision revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will feature omnidirectional movement, a revamped HUD, and the classic prestige system during the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct. Developer Treyarch unveiled a slew of new details about the game during the Direct, showcasing details about the game that will both push the franchise forward and return Call of Duty to its roots.
The Black Ops series of Call of Duty games are held in high regard by fans of the FPS, with the first Black Ops game often ranking as one of the best in the franchise. While the most recent game in the franchise, Modern Warfare 3, has been well received in terms of mechanics, fans have found the game to be lacking in other aspects, retreading the series' history. With Black Ops 6, Treyarch and Activision is set to right this and push the series forward.
Treyarch is overhauling gameplay, introducing omnidirectional movement to Call of Duty in Black Ops 6. This allows players to run, slide, and dive in any direction. Alongside this comes a setting called intelligent movement, automating movements such as sprinting, mantling, and sliding through crouch-height holes. Also getting a revamp is HUD customization. Some of the HUD options include disabling the HUD entirely, relocating the mini map, centering the HUD elements, and a layout designed for streaming. Treyarch also confirmed that the classic prestige system will return to Black Ops 6.
The Classic Prestige System Returns In Black Ops 6
The classic prestige system was a longtime staple of Call of Duty. Once players reach level 55 in multiplayer, they are able to prestige, resetting multiplayer progress, allowing the player to do it all over again. Once they reach the highest level of prestige, prestige 10, they will be able to continue leveling all the way to level 1000. Unlike recent Call of Duty titles, there will be no seasonal level caps, meaning players will be able to reach the highest level of prestige right away. In 2019's Modern Warfare, the prestige system was removed in favor of a seasonal leveling system. In Black Ops Cold War, the system returned, but altered. In this new system, players would level continuously, and every 50 ranks would be granted a level of prestige.
The changes Treyarch is making to the classic Call of Duty gameplay in Black Ops 6 coupled with the return of a fan favorite feature are sure to excite fans of the franchise. Call of Duty has been releasing entries for over 20 years, and each new entry adds something new to the franchise. Many fans, though, have felt the series has been stagnating lately. Modern Warfare 3 was heavily criticized for relying on classic maps rather than new ones and for having a lackluster campaign. It seems as though Activision have listened to fan concerns and is ready to push the franchise in the right direction.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available to play on Xbox Game Pass right at launch on October 25. More information about the game will be given by Treyarch at CoD Next on August 28.
