Summary
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 censored a calling card to remove potential 9/11 references.
- The card previously featured an image of George Bush and an airplane.
- It's unclear if the 9/11 nods were on purpose or not.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has censored its default calling card by removing what could be perceived as references to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set during the Gulf War in the early 90s, but that hasn't stopped rumors from spreading that the game would feature 9/11 in some capacity.
In fact, there were rumors going around online that Black Ops 6 would include a 9/11 level as the single-player campaign's big "No Russian" moment. Those rumors have since been denied, but now it seems that there is indeed a reference to 9/11 in the game. Or at least, imagery that certainly makes people think of the terrorist attacks.
I Like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, But I Have 1 Big Concern
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is in the midst of its first beta test, and there are some pros and cons to be considered.
The Make History calling card in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 featured what appeared to be a pixelated image of President George W. Bush on the left and a plane flying near or towards a structure on the right. Putting an image of George Bush next to an airplane is inevitably going to make people think about 9/11. Whether that's the reason why the calling card has now been censored is unclear, but the fact remains that it's been changed. As pointed out by Charlie Intel, the calling card has been tweaked to remove Bush's image and the plane entirely.
Black Ops 6 Calling Card Censored
Some fans online have taken the existence of this calling card as a sign that the rumored 9/11 mission for the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 single-player campaign is real, but that's quite the stretch. It's possible that the calling card was never even meant to be a reference to 9/11 at all, and so fans should keep that in mind.
While some missions of the Black Ops 6 single-player campaign have been shown off, much of it remains shrouded in mystery. The campaign will not be part of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's beta tests, so fans will have to wait until October 25 to see what all it has in store. For now, those interested in playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 can pre-order the game or sign up for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to get early access to the beta. Beta early access ends on September 4, so there are just a couple more days to check it out, but those that can wait until this weekend to check out the new game should note that an open beta is scheduled to take place from September 6 to September 9.
