Earlier today, players began to notice a tease for Call of Duty 2020, rumored to be call Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, inside of Warzone, Modern Warfare's battle royale mode. While some aspects of the tease are quite obvious, there's an additional tidbit of information that points towards the game being a reboot of the Black Ops franchise.
Not only is the extra information easy to miss, but to understand it, players will need to be able to read Russian. Shortly after the tease pops up, fans will see the words "know your history" appear on-screen. Moments after that, just for a second, another two lines of text appear. However, the two lines are not only in Russian, but badly faded.
The full line of text appears to be "Обречён ПоЬторениею," which when literally translated means "doomed by repentance," or more accurately "doomed to repeat it." This could mean a lot of different things, and it's even possible that the entire clue is meant to hint towards something bigger, but it seems that the developers are hinting at repeating history, or in this case, repeating a game.
Of course, this is all speculation, and should be taken with a massive grain of salt. That being said, there's mounting evidence that Call of Duty 2020 is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. With Modern Warfare itself being a reboot of a sub-franchise, Black Ops getting a reboot certainly isn't out of the question.
There's likely even more information within the videos pointing towards what the next Call of Duty will be that players simply haven't found yet. However, fans may not have much longer to wait before an initial reveal, as some have begun to receive Call of Duty crates pointing to a reveal as early as next week, which would give players just a few days to crack a potential code hidden in the tease.
According to a recent Activision financial call, Call of Duty 2020's reveal could happen in Warzone, which would be an amazing way to surprise players. Fortnite has popularized live events in games through things like concerts and movie showings, so the idea isn't nearly as strange as it once was.
There have also been teases of Black Ops' Frank Woods in Warzone, so the character could appear in the game either as part of the reveal, or shortly after as a piece of promotional material. Either way, fans should have an answer soon, as some sort of announcement should be coming any day now.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is rumored to be in development.
