Ever since Call of Duty 2 launched in 2005, there has been a new main series Call of Duty game released every single fall without fail. However, there are some rumblings that the upcoming Call of Duty 2020 may break that tradition, as an industry insider believes that the game may end up being delayed.

Tom Henderson, a Twitter user known for accurate Call of Duty leaks, recently commented on the rumors that the Call of Duty 2020 reveal isn't happening soon. Henderson says that he is "concerned" by this revelation, and that he's heard that the game is a mess. Henderson concluded by stating that he is 50/50 on whether or not Activision ends up delaying Call of Duty 2020, which would potentially make it miss the holiday release window depending on how far it's pushed back.

Compared to other Call of Duty games, Call of Duty 2020 has reportedly had a rough time in development. The game was originally being developed by Sledgehammer Games, but then reports surfaced that Sledgehammer and assisting studio Raven Software were butting heads. Supposedly, this prompted Activision to put Treyarch in charge of Call of Duty 2020, despite the fact that the studio had just launched Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and CoD games usually have three year development cycles.

Adding Treyarch to the project has made Call of Duty 2020 change course a bit. The game is apparently retaining a Cold War setting that was already decided on, but it will now use the Black Ops subtitle. In fact, a new Call of Duty: Black Ops logo has leaked online, lending credibility to those rumors. But despite Treyarch retaining at least some of the work that was done by Sledgehammer and Raven, making the studio push out a new Call of Duty an entire year faster than usual is undoubtedly going to lead to some issues.

Activision delaying the new Call of Duty would likely upset shareholders and hurt the company's bottom line, so it seems unlikely. If anything, it may release Call of Duty 2020 in a slightly unfinished state, and then add more content to the game post-launch to get it closer to a complete experience. However, that's just speculation. Activision would likely do just about anything to avoid delaying Call of Duty 2020, so fans are more likely than not going to get the game this year regardless.

Reports indicate that Call of Duty 2020 will have Zombies, the standard Call of Duty multiplayer experience, and a story campaign, so it should provide quite a bit of content if it reaches its development goals. Hopefully a proper Call of Duty 2020 reveal comes sooner rather than later to put fans' minds at ease.

Call of Duty 2020 is rumored to be in development for unspecified platforms.
