The Call of Duty franchise is no stranger to challenge and unlock grinds and Modern Warfare is no exception. Whether it's the Battle Pass, weapon and operator, or the list of daily and seasonal challenges, there's no shortage of things for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players to achieve. However, Infinity Ward is getting ready to add another layer to the already extensive list of challenges later this season.
In response to a fan on Twitter, Joe Cecot who serves as the Co-Design Director Director of Multiplayer on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare revealed new details on the upcoming weapon and camouflage mastery challenges. Infinity Ward is aiming to launch this new mechanic sometime during the middle of Season 3 and it will require players to have the gold camo unlocked for the weapon first before mastery progression starts. Naturally, this system will require quite a grind as Cecot mentioned that it should take players a long time to unlock the new mastery camo.
Discussing the system further, Cecot also mentioned that the mastery challenges are per gun so players won't need to unlock every gold camo for every weapon first. All it takes is to have gold camo unlocked for the weapon that players want to grind mastery for. Damascus camo is also not a prerequisite or required to progress towards master camo.
Joel Emslie also responded to a similar post and provided a bit more information on the mid-season update. According to Emslie, the mastery camo challenges are going to be joined with the Gunsmith Customs in the same update. In fact, Infinity Ward is also working on a master calling cards system similar to Modern Warfare 2, which is making significant progress and shouldn't be too far behind the master camo and Gunsmith Customs update. The studio isn't ready to announce a specific date for this release, but it should no doubt please fans.
While this influx of new content and new things to do are no doubt appreciated by the community, Infinity Ward has also been hard at work squashing a number of pain points the community has been experiencing. Season 3 brought with it plenty of new bug fixes including a fix for the Xbox UDT Ghost Bundle issue as well as a way for players to turn off all of those flashing green symbols for new items in the multiplayer menus.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
