Since it launched in October 2019, A of Duty: Modern Warfare has been involved in nearly an endless supply of rumors, speculation, and leaks. While not everything came to pass, much of what players now have was discovered early from Season 2 content, new maps, and the current popular Battle Royale mode, Call of Duty: Warzone. A Remastered version of Modern Warfare 2's campaign is the current hot topic, though a new leak seems to be highlighting a completely different game in the long running series.
While there's still a bit of time before the reveal of this year's Call of Duty title, new speculation, leaks, and rumors are starting to paint a specific picture. The franchise isn't afraid to tease future content through Easter eggs and other hidden content, so this wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened. According to Call of Duty leaker, TheGamingRevolution, this year's big title is likely going to be a reboot of Call of Duty: Black Ops.
The speculation comes from an unreleased animated calling card found inside of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The calling card features the Treyarch name and logo on top of a black and red background. The animated portion has the logo and the background colors pulsating in a way that is reminiscent of the interrogation home screen. The other key to this theory is that the calling card is currently unreleased and will be unlocked as a pre-order bonus or some kind of early marketing material once Call of Duty 2020 is officially announced.
Obviously, this is all unsubstantiated theories from the community, so fans should take this with a grain of salt. It's also entirely possible that this calling card will eventually be released in an update as a nod from one Call of Duty developer to another.
Still, this isn't the first time a potential Call of Duty: Black Ops reboot has surfaced. Not only would it be the 10 year anniversary of the original Black Ops release, but sources have indicated that Treyarch was brought in to take control of the project after Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games has been struggling. Recent leaks have referred to the game's codename as Project Zeus and will feature classic Black Ops characters Frank Woods and Alex Mason, recast in a similar way to Captain Price. The campaign is planned to be more realistic with a bigger focus on the Vietnam conflict, shifting perspectives between the US, Vietcong, and South Vietnam forces.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
