The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot may not have any concrete story details or an official pilot order, but I, along with many fans, hope that there will be some good news soon. The WB drama that aired for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003 told a gripping story about a teenager balancing her life fighting vampires with trying to have some fun and be a regular young adult. In the years since, I've wondered if a reboot or revival could be possible as the stars have commented on it several times. I've been just as thrilled as other fans that Sarah Michelle Gellar has been sharing updates recently.

I'd be happy to see the funny and charming Anya Jenkins (Emma Caufield) on the reboot, but I don't think that everyone should come back. There is one character who in particular who I think can be left in the past along with someone else I really want to see again.

While I don't think that Spike (James Marsters) needs to return for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, I would be happy if Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan) came back. Spike is a tough character to like, especially since by the time he becomes a love interest for Buffy Summers, fans have felt negatively toward him for a while. It's hard to believe that Spike is a better match for Buffy than Angel (David Boreanaz), who gets his own spinoff. There is also a problematic scene featuring Spike in the season 6 episode "Seeing Red" that makes it hard to feel as positive toward Spike as the other characters, and I think his character arc is best left in the past.

I'm not sure there would be a logical reason for Spike to return to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. This time around, I doubt that Buffy will be in a relationship with Spike or Angel. I think the reboot should pay tribute to Michelle Trachtenberg's character Dawn Summers, but I don't think that Spike's arc is incomplete. He dies in the series finale to ruin the Hellmouth, which feels like the right decision since he proves that he is unselfish and trying to do what's right. If the reboot picks up after the finale's events and timeline, would there be a reason to bring him back from the dead?

I would be happy to see Willow again, though, because she's a heartwarming Buffy the Vampire Slayer character. I'm curious to find out what Willow is doing now. I would hate to find out that Willow and Buffy have lost touch, so I hope the Buffy reboot explains that they're still as close as they always were. It would also be funny if the reboot made a joke about evil Willow and if the two characters reflected on the wild experiences they had fighting vampires and demons in high school and college.

I think the Buffy reboot needs comedic relief along with some beloved characters. Although the reboot will focus on the new characters, I think Willow and Buffy should get the same amount of screen time. Willow is the smart voice of reason in every Buffy the Vampire Slayer scene she's in, and I'm hoping she's more confident now than she was in her adolescent years.

Several years ago, Alyson Hannigan talked about a possible Buffy revival and said she would consider playing Willow again. She said:

"I never say never and I am always open to it but I am also very particular, especially with Buffy, where it would have to be good enough for the fans. I wouldn’t want to tarnish what was so special to so many people.”

Willow Rosenberg has a surprising character arc on Buffy the Vampire Slayer since, once the Buffy season 2 finale aired, Willow has realized that she loves practicing magic. Willow's exploration of witchcraft helps her grow and believe in herself. She changes from a clumsy, uneasy, and scared teenager to a young adult who knows who she is and what she wants, and it's moving to watch.

Willow plays a big role in the last few seasons of the show, from helping all the main characters survive as Sunnydale is ruined in the series finale to resurrecting Buffy Summers in season 6. In the final episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Willow, Buffy, and the others stand together and have no idea what's going to happen next.
