Fans of the free-to-play 2D brawler Brawlhalla can now look forward to a new way to challenge their friends. A short promo during the recent Ubisoft Forward showcase revealed that the colorful platform fighter will be coming to mobile devices on August 6th, 2020.
The short video highlighted new fully customizable touch-screen control options that are set to be introduced with the mobile edition of the game, while reminding players that Brawlhalla will continue to support "cross-play for everyone," as it always has.
Brawlhalla took the gaming world by storm when it offered players a high-quality, free alternative to the hyper-popular Super Smash Bros. Series. Having grown to secure official crossovers with beloved series like Tomb Raider, Steven Universe, and most recently Ben 10, the indie platform fighter has now amassed over 40 million players. While players may have to purchase in-game currency to enjoy bonuses like the Ben 10 crossover, the game is known for its weekly rotating selection of free-to-play characters.
Mammoth Games revealed there would be a mobile version of Brawlhalla "in early 2020" in an official statement in November 2019, but fans were left wondering about the details up until this afternoon. Following an extensive in-depth look at Ubisoft's upcoming Watch Dogs: Legion, viewers were treated to the exciting new Brawlhalla announcement.
For now, the details remain sparse but Ubisoft did confirm an August 6 release date, customizable controls, cross-play, and touch-screen support. That said, the game's imminent mobile release date doesn't leave much more time for mystery - it shouldn't be long before fans have a more detailed picture. Given Brawlhalla's traditionally extensive character roster, it wouldn't be surprising if additional characters or in-game goodies were released alongside the mobile version. Perhaps a new crossover is in store, too?
Brawlhalla is available now on PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, and is coming to the App Store and Google Play on August 6.
