The Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a new take on the series' original story. Players can experience the classic story with updated graphics, UI, and gameplay. One potentially controversial change is the differences to the encounter rate system.

Players used to be able to change the encounter rate to zero from the very start of the game. However, the remaster changed things. Players can still prevent monsters from spawning in the wild, but they must unlock this ability through gameplay. So, here's how to change the encounter rate to zero in Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD.

Here are all the gameplay and quality of life differences between Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD for the Switch 2 and the 3DS version.

How to Change Encounter Rate to Zero in Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD

The encounter rate determines how often monsters attack in dungeons and outside cities. Players start the game with encounter rates ranging from 50% to 200%. A higher encounter rate is the best way to level up the team's jobs quickly, but there are some moments where players may want to avoid any hold-ups.

There was a rumor that a zero encounter rate would be unavailable, but that is not the case. Instead, the remaster introduced two new Mini-games that make the popular available.

How to Unlock Mini-games in Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD

Players can unlock more encounter rate options by earning Petal Tokens and exchanging them for prize items. Mini-games are unlocked once players get to Florem. Florem is the third city that players go to during Chapter Two of the main story.

Players can unlock the Mini-games in the Florem City Entrance by talking to the Game Corner host next to the Potion Shop. He has a circus tent icon above his head. There are two Mini-games in the Game Corner that players can try out:

  • Luxencheer Rhythm Catch - a musical rhythm-based game. Players must time their movements with the beat and icons on the screen. Each song has three levels: Normal, Hard, and Expert.
  • Rigabel's Panic Cruise - A multitask game where players must steer the airship, complete tasks, and fight enemies.

Both Mini-games give players the chance to experience the new Joy-Con features.

Players who get high scores unlock more game levels, Petal Tokens, and difficulty levels. Two token prizes affect the encounter rates in Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD, but players must buy the Ward Bangle specifically to change the encounter rate to zero.

Ward Bangle

An armlet that keeps foes away

20 Petal Tokens

Taunt Bangle

Unlocks a new encounter rate of 400%

10 Petal Tokens

Once players purchase these items, their encounter rates list will update to include 0% and 400%. If it is set to zero, players don't have to worry about fights. This comes in handy if they want to conserve resources, avoid damage to Party Members, or save time when traveling quickly. On the other hand, 400% causes foes to spawn every few steps. This is a solid feature for those trying to grind and farm PG, JP, and EXP.

Players can purchase other rare items and resources from the Game Corner, making it a worthwhile investment of time. Mini-games are also a good little break from the main story quests.
