This article contains spoilers from the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga.
When it comes to power-ups in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Boruto Uzumaki has continuously unlocked new abilities, from Rasengan Uzuhiko and the Flying Thunder God technique to the power of Karma forced upon him by Momoshiki Otsutsuki. All these power-ups accelerated Boruto’s growth, allowing him to hold his ground against the most powerful villains in Boruto.
Following the release of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 28, Boruto Uzumaki once again received another incredible and convenient upgrade. This time, Boruto gained a new sword upgrade, all thanks to Kashin Koji’s intel and Sumire Kakei’s efforts to integrate advanced scientific methods into the sword. The latest sword upgrade allows Boruto to utilize the Uchiha-style Blade Technique: Hagoromo more efficiently, enhancing durability, power, and chakra flow.
Boruto’s New Sword Upgrade Is a Product of Science
Sasuke's Sword of Kusanagi Is Now a Scientific Ninja Tool
- Sumire upgraded Boruto's sword with scientific adjustments.
- Boruto’s upgraded sword is now much more resistant to chipping.
Sasuke Uchiha may have been missing in action for quite some time now, but his apprentice, Boruto Uzumaki, continues to remind fans of his presence, fighting style, and so on. The Sword of Kusanagi, which Sasuke originally wielded, has been with Boruto not only as a symbol of his legacy but also as a medium to execute powerful techniques like the Hagoromo and take on formidable opponents such as Code, Jura, and even Kawaki.
As fans know, Sasuke’s sword is incredibly important to Boruto, and he wishes to return it to his master in excellent condition once he's free. However, during Boruto’s intense fight with Jura in the Land of the Wind, the overwhelming strength of the leader of the Shinju Clones chipped Sasuke’s sword with only one of his hands, leaving a very frustrated Boruto.
That’s when Boruto decided to bring the sword to Sumire Kakei for an urgent repair and even asked her to fix it with intriguing instructions divined by Kashin Koji's prescience. As a result, Sumire successfully repaired Boruto’s sword according to his instructions, even going further by making scientific enhancements that improved almost everything about it.
Boruto Can Now Wield the Hagoromo More Effectively
Boruto No Longer Needs Constant Focus to Maintain Hagoromo
- Boruto’s upgraded sword can sustain Hagoromo on its own.
- Boruto's upgraded sword is dangerous to unregistered wielders.
For context, Boruto’s Uchiha Style Blade: Hagoromo refers to a high-level sword technique that Boruto uses to coat the Sword of Kusanagi with his concentrated chakra, dramatically increasing its sharpness, durability, and cutting ability. While Hagoromo is active, Boruto is required to focus fully to keep the chakra flow stable, ensuring the blade remains sharp and unbreakable.
However, Boruto’s new upgraded sword makes things easier for him. Sumire’s adjustments allow the sword to automatically absorb small amounts of Boruto’s chakra, powering the Hagoromo without forcing Boruto to split his focus and attention. As long as Boruto has chakra, the sword can maintain Hagoromo on its own, giving him more freedom to focus entirely on the battle.
More impressively, Sumire also added a built-in fail-safe for Boruto’s upgraded sword. By registering someone’s chakra, the blade will automatically absorb huge amounts of chakra if it detects foreign interference, preventing an enemy from weaponizing it. So far, only three people are registered, and they are Boruto, Sasuke, and Sumire herself. Should Jura pick up Boruto’s upgraded sword, the blade will likely drain his chakra faster than ever.
Boruto Faces Mamushi Using His Upgraded Sword
Boruto’s Upgraded Sword Effortlessly Splits Mamushi’s Clones
Just recently, Boruto Uzumaki had an opportunity to test his upgraded sword against Shinju Mamushi’s multiple clones in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 28. He is still in the middle of fighting Mamushi, and so far, his upgraded sword has proven effective at cutting down the clones flawlessly, showing no signs of difficulty and strain even under the intense pressure of the enemy.
If you don’t want to die, I suggest you get lost.—Boruto Uzumaki to Mamushi
However, with Boruto on the move, Jura may eventually come out of hiding, especially if the fighting extends beyond Konoha. For now, Boruto’s mission would be to contain and eliminate the conflict within Konoha to avoid Jura’s involvement. If he were to fail, Jura might reveal himself, and Boruto’s upgraded sword will likely be put to another difficult test.
