Boruto: Two Blue Vortex finally gives the Byakugan the attention it deserves in recent chapters, all thanks to Boruto Uzumaki. Ikemoto has been keeping this iconic dojutsu in the dark for quite a long time now, but it's finally stepping back into the spotlight through Boruto and Momoshiki Otsutsuki’s unexpected cooperation.

It’s not just Himawari who represents the future of Byakugan anymore, as Boruto may unlock a new evolution of the Byakugan that changes everything we know about the dojutsu.
Boruto Makes Byakugan Relevant Again in Two Blue Vortex
Boruto Used the Byakugan for the First Time

Almost ten years into the series, Boruto Uzumaki finally awakens the byakugan. Fans have been looking forward to this moment, as the series gave little to no attention to the Hyuga Clan’s iconic dojutsu. Instead of exploring the Byakugan further, the Boruto series continues to highlight the Uchiha Clan’s Sharingan through Sarada, in addition to Kawaki's Kokugan and Eida’s Senrigan.
Fortunately, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 29 changes that. The chapter officially names Boruto Uzumaki as a Byakugan user despite using the dojutsu on behalf of Momoshiki Otsutsuki. Without Momoshiki, Boruto would likely struggle to unlock the Byakugan on his own. This isn’t an unusual case, as there have been other instances where members of the Hyuga Clan fail to awaken the Byakugan.
Regardless, Boruto’s byakugan is here to stay from here on. This means that Boruto finally has a near 360° field of vision, on top of gaining the ability to see his opponent’s chakra flow and tenketsu detection. This makes it harder for Boruto’s opponents to ambush him, let alone attack his weak points. Not to mention, his byakugan is likely enhanced by Momoshiki Otsutsuki’s influence, potentially allowing Boruto to eventually evolve the dojutsu.
Boruto Could Evolve the Byakugan into Tenseigan
Boruto Is Both Hyuga and Otsutsuki

While the Uchiha Clan’s Sharingan can evolve into the Mangekyo Sharingan and later into the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, the evolution of the Byakugan remains largely underexplored in both Naruto and Boruto for some reason. Perhaps the only Byakugan evolution we got was from The Last: Naruto the Movie, where the Byakugan transformed into the Tenseigan.
For context, the Byakugan becomes a Tenseigan when an Otsutsuki receives a Byakugan from any member of the Hyuga Clan. This is what happened to Toneri Otsutsuki, who implanted Hanabi Hyuga’s byakugan on himself and eventually awakened the Tenseigan. On top of that, Toneri Otsutsuki also unlocked the Tenseigan Chakra Mode, which is said to be on par with Naruto Uzumaki’s senjutsu-enhanced Nine-Tails Chakra Mode.
At this point, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Boruto Uzumaki also evolved his Byakugan into the Tenseigan someday. After all, he has the requirements checked, given his ties to the Hyuga and Otsutsuki Clans. In other words, it's not impossible for Boruto to transform his newly awakened Byakugan into Tenseigan and eventually enter Tenseigan Chakra Mode that will give him truth-seeking balls.

Boruto’s Byakugan May Reach Its True Form as the Jogan
The Byakugan’s Possible Evolution Through Boruto
Among the dojutsu in the Boruto series, the Jogan is one of the most highly anticipated visual prowess. Even after ten years have passed, the hype for Boruto’s jogan appearing in the manga series has never died down. After all, the Jogan is referred to as the “Pure Eye,” or the “Eye of Hope,” a game-changing dojutsu said to hold powers that could surpass even the most iconic dojutsu in the Naruto universe.
Although the Byakugan isn’t officially connected to the Jogan, fans theorize that the Byakugan’s ultimate form may be the Jogan. This long-overdue dojutsu could manifest as a unique mutation in Boruto Uzumaki. If that’s the case, the evolution could progress from Boruto’s Byakugan to the Tenseigan and finally to the Jogan. However, don’t expect much, as the Jogan remains a separate dojutsu unless Ikemoto decides to explicitly connect it to the Byakugan.
