Of course, this was not a chapter focused on big battles, and it can be said that this chapter didn't drop some major lore reveals to the fans either. One of the biggest and most exciting things that this chapter of Boruto tackled was the mystery of the new Shinju that was teased in the previous chapter. Fans clearly knew that the Shinju they saw previously was going to be significant in this month's chapter, and, while the entire chapter wasn't about him, fans finally know who the Shinju belongs to, and how exactly it was birthed.

The New Shinju In Boruto Was Teased At The End Of The Last Chapter

  • A New Thorn Soul Bulb Emerged
  • A New Shinju Is Born

Towards the end of the previous chapter, a new Shinju was seen in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. This happened immediately after the fight between Boruto and the Shinju concluded. Jura was about to eliminate Boruto, when Matsuri's mission was complete, and Mamushi reached out to him, asking him to come and finalize the Shinju procession. With that, Boruto's life was spared, and, in the words of Jura, he was incredibly lucky. Jura went back to the hideout, where a new thorn soil bulb was ejected from the God Tree's roots.

Now, what shall I name you? – Jura

For those who do not remember, the Thorn Soul Bulb is the essence of the Shinju. It is, in other words, a core. It is this core that the Shinju is formed around, and essentially, if it gets destroyed, the Shinju is going to get destroyed as well. This new Thorn Soul Bulb being ejected meant that a new Shinju was going to be formed, and that is how that happened on the last page of last month's chapter.

Fans were theorizing about who the new Shinju was going to be, with some even going as far as to claim that this Shinju belonged to Naruto. Based on the appearance of the new Shinju, this was a plausible guess, and certainly one that would have excited readers from all over the world. At the same time, it would make the story that much more exciting, simply because Naruto is the soul of the very franchise, and having him involved in the plot in just about any way would make the story way more incredible.

Unfortunately, this Shinju was not Naruto at all. In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 14, it was finally confirmed to be someone else entirely, but, at the same time, someone that fans had predicted it to be.

Ryu Is Revealed To Be The New Shinju In Boruto

The New Shinju Is The Son Of Gaara, Shinki

In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 14, the new Shinju was revealed to be none other than Ryu. Based on how the name is written, Ryu translates to particle or grain. That in itself was a big hint as to who the Shinju was based on, and for those who still did not catch it, the answer is Shinki. Fans know Shinki to be a very powerful Next Generation ninja from Hidden Sand. In fact, Shinki was also seen playing a very important role in the early part of Boruto, where he fought against Boruto Uzumaki in the Chunin Exams, especially in the anime.

How do you feel, Ryu? – Jura

In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 14, fans finally got to see an incredibly exciting plot point build as Kankuro contacted Konoha, and then revealed that Sunagakure was attacked by a Shinju. It appears that Gaara had great trouble dealing with this Shinju, and at the same time, Shinki, who fans know to be Gaara's adoptive son, tried helping him out as well.

It isn't explicitly stated that Shinki was consumed by the God Tree, but, based on the fact that the new shinju is based on Shinki, it is a fair assumption to say that he was bitten by a Claw Grime and essentially turned into a tree, which has now resulted in his Shinju being born. The name of the Shinju, as stated earlier, is Ryu, and it is going to be incredibly important from here onwards.

The Attack On Sunagakure Explains That Latest Shinju

Gaara Has Already Been Defeated In Boruto

It is unfortunate that fans did not get to see the latest attack on Sunagakure from the Shinju. For one, fans know for a fact that one of the biggest shortcomings of the Boruto series is its lack of focus on the side characters. It would have been incredible if fans actually got to see Matsuri lead her own point of view and attack Sunagakure. Then, fans could have seen Gaara and Shinki try to defend the village from her, and eventually, fail. Fans would have seen how Gaara was defeated and, at the same time, how Shinki was turned into a God Tree. This would have been an incredibly exciting event at the beginning of the story, and would have paralleled how the Akatsuki took down Gaara at the beginning of Naruto Shippuden.

Unfortunately, fans did not get to see any of that, and all this information was provided to them from another source, which, in this case, turned out to be none other than Kankuro. But, there is still hope, as the team could head out on a mission to help Gaara and the others, which means that the world of Boruto could be expanded even further.

It would also be incredible to see how Gaara and the others get involved in the ongoing war against the Shinju, and what Kankuro does in the story moving forward. Above all, fans know that another new Shinju has been added to their ranks, and from here onwards, they are now going to be even bigger threats.

As far as Ryu goes, fans don't know who his target is. It is possible that Ryu would want to consume Gaara, given that this person is pretty close to Shinki. Or, Ryu could also be targeting Boruto Uzumaki, because he does share a very close bond with him. Regardless, fans will have to wait a while to see what happens next, and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 15 is likely going to provide the answer.

Unfortunately, that also means that fans will have to keep guessing for a month to see what happens next in the Boruto manga, and, hopefully, all these questions will finally be answered in the next chapter of the series. The Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga has just begun, and keeps on getting better with each passing chapter. Now, fans can see the intensity pick up even further, with tension increasing as the Shinju grow more dominant.

Boruto is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of Boruto, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 15, is set to be October 20, 2024.
