Summary

  • They have known each other since childhood, creating a strong bond.
  • A friendly rival dynamic similar to Sasuke and Naruto's.
  • Romance between Sarada and Boruto is a real possibility, supported by hints in the story.

While many Naruto fans haven't kept up with Boruto, the story has taken an interesting turn. And even with all the great storylines about Divine Trees turning into humanoids and the never-ending mysteries surrounding the Otsutsuki clan, which is likely to be the final enemy, fans still have time to think about romance and pick their favorite ships.

Sarada x Boruto are one of the strongest ships in the story. Although there is still a long way to go, there are many hints of a possible romance between them. What exactly is their relationship like?

Boruto: Kishimoto Reveals How Overpowered Sarada Truly Is

Sarada is quite a powerful character, being the daughter of Sasuke and Sakura. However, she is still underutilized.

They Have Known Each Other Since They Were Little

Because their parents were close, or at least Naruto and Sakura were close, Boruto and Sarada are childhood friends. Since they are also about the same age, they enrolled in the Ninja Academy at the same time.

Boruto was the kind of kid who liked to pull pranks, and that annoyed Sarada a lot, so she usually tried to play it cool and make it look like she didn't care much about him. She usually scolded him as well. In the end, they were just like many childhood friends out there, and they were very supportive of each other when needed. At least before things got more serious.

They Have A Nice Friendly Rival Dynamics

Boruto Kishimoto Confirms Sarada's New World-Changing Powers

Just like Sasuke and Naruto, there is also this "friendly rival" dynamic between Sarada and Boruto, and that is always something the audience enjoys — it is even one of the reasons why so many people ship Sasuke and Naruto.

Another cool thing about them is that Sarada looks up to Naruto and dreams of becoming a Hokage, while Boruto wants to be a shinobi like Sasuke. At the same time, both Boruto and Sarada have complicated relationships with their own fathers, as they feel that their fathers are absent for different reasons — Naruto is always busy as the Hokage, and Sasuke was gone for a very long time, which led to a lot of trouble for Sarada and Sakura.

They Care Deeply For Each Other

At the very least, Sarada and Boruto are great friends who support each other and also fight for each other. For example, in Two Blue Vortex, Boruto has an ugly scar on his right eye, the one that has awakened the Jōgan — it was later revealed that he got this scar years before while protecting Sarada. His scar is probably also related to Code, and perhaps a shared destiny between them, but still, he got it protecting Sarada.

From the me who felt unsettled by class rep's feelings... And from my own feelings towards Boruto. I rejected them all as weaknesses... Not realizing that I was also rejecting the power hiding inside me.

— Sarada Uchiha

Sarada also reawakens the Mangekyo Sharing and uses a new overpowered technique when she admits to herself how much she cares for Boruto and other people. She admits that keeping these feelings bottled up has kept her from unleashing her true power — it shows how important Boruto is to her.

Romance Is A Real Possibility

A romance between Sarada and Boruto has always been a strong possibility, and it is no surprise that this is a popular ship among fans — it may well be the most obvious ship. While there are other potential partners, especially for Boruto (since Sumire also has feelings for him), Boruto and Sarada would indeed make a nice couple, and other characters have stated that in the story.

Boruto Two Blue Vortex Chapter 21, in which Sarada remembers many things about her relationship with Boruto and sort of admits that she has strong feelings for him, makes this possibility even more real. That doesn't mean, of course, that they will end up together, as there is still time for the story to open up new possibilities. Some fans even think that since Sakura and Naruto did not end up together, Sarada and Boruto should end up together as a way of "making amends" with the audience (but honestly, Sarada and Boruto look more like Sasuke and Naruto than anything else).

Boruto Two Blue Vortex is officially available on MANGA Plus, in English and many other languages.
