The Boruto series is set many years after the conclusion of the Fourth Great Ninja War. Fans know very well that the main character of the Boruto series is Boruto Uzumaki, and that he is the focus is now on the next generation of ninjas. However, that certainly doesn't mean that the old generation of ninjas won't be central to the plot in Boruto. This is especially true for Naruto and Sasuke.
In fact, most fans invested in Boruto come from Naruto and want to follow the journey of their favorite characters. This is precisely why it was very disappointing for them to know that their favorite characters were nerfed tremendously in Boruto. Both Naruto and Sasuke lost their biggest powers in the Boruto series. Naruto Uzumaki lost the power of Kurama in the battle against Isshiki. When Kurama died, Naruto Uzumaki could no longer access the near-infinite pool of chakra that he had, and his connection to other Tailed Beasts was presumably also severed.

Similarly, Sasuke Uchiha lost the power of his Rinnegan in the Boruto series, and all he has left now is the Mangekyo Sharingan. Shortly after their fall from grace, both of them were incapacitated. Naruto was sealed by Kawaki, while Sasuke was turned into a tree.
While both Naruto and Sasuke were disgraced in Boruto, fans know very well that they will eventually return, and it appears that their next power-ups have already been set up in the form of scientific ninja tools.
Sasuke Already Has A Scientific Ninja Tool Sword
Sasuke having a new sword was confirmed in Boruto chapter 28, where it was officially revealed that Sasuke's sword has now been turned into a scientific ninja tool to enhance its performance greatly. The sword is stronger than ever before and possesses great power that should boost Sasuke's skill to the next level.
The blade's material is still the same, just treated...and its shape altered for maximum strength and cutting ability. The guard is unchanged, but the rest has been almost completely changed. That's not all, the blade is now set to automatically maintain your Uchiha blade Jutsu Hagoromo on its own, once you've gripped the hilt and activated the Jutsu. One more thing, a certain special material has also been compounded into the sword. It is much more powerful than before now. Since Sasuke received a scientific ninja tool, it is highly likely that Naruto will also receive his own version of a scientific ninja tool, which will most likely come in the form of a prosthetic hand.
Naruto Will Likely Gain A New Prosthetic Hand
After the Momoshiki arc of Boruto, it was revealed to the fans that Naruto was testing a new prosthetic hand which allowed him to absorb chakra. This was still a prototype at the time, but 3 years have passed since and it is highly likely that it has now been improved upon tremendously.
If Sasuke receives a scientific ninja tool sword upon his return in Boruto, it makes sense for Naruto to receive a new hand. Together, Naruto and Sasuke will receive new ninja tools in Boruto, and that will push them to the next level.
Of course, ninja tools alone are not enough and they will still need to gain further powers. It is highly likely that Naruto Uzumaki will improve upon his Sage Mode or possibly even establish a connection with other Tailed Beasts. Similarly, Sasuke has his Mangekyo Sharingan, and perhaps he will figure out a way to improve it even further.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is the sequel to the original Boruto series, written by Mikio Ikemoto, and supervised by Masashi Kishimoto. The series follows the journey of Boruto Uzumaki, 3 years after the events of Omnipotence struck in the story. Boruto must now work to save to world from the perils it faces while dealing with his brother, Kawaki. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 30 is set for its official release on January 20, 2026.
