- Publicly, Naruto Was Declared Dead
Naruto Uzumaki was always one of the characters who fans were too sure would survive Boruto. Right from the beginning of the story, there were death flags all over the character, and with time, it became clear that Naruto Uzumaki needed to be cut out of the story in one way or another. Thankfully, the author didn't go ahead and kill the character, but instead, decided to only temporarily remove him from the plot.
I will send you to the same place I sent the Seventh. — Kawaki to Boruto
This happened thanks to Kawaki, who, in order to protect Naruto, decided to seal him away so that he could deal with those who would do him harm, including his own son, Boruto Uzumaki. After sealing away Naruto Uzumaki, Kawaki was able to change the course of the world thanks to Eida’s Omnipotence. Because of this jutsu, Boruto Uzumaki was made the perpetrator, while Kawaki was considered by the whole world to be the son of Naruto Uzumaki.

In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 21, Naruto Uzumaki finally made an appearance as Sarada Uchiha Reawakened her Mangekyo Sharingan. He was there to highlight the importance of the goal of becoming the Hokage and it was truly fascinating for the fans to witness their favorite character once again. Naruto was teaching Sarada what it meant to be Hokage, and at the same time, how he treats the whole village as his family.

A Return Isn't Imminent Right Now
While Naruto Uzumaki made a brief appearance in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 21, fans know that he isn't anywhere close to returning to the story right now.
