This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.
The Naruto world has changed greatly over the years and deep into the Boruto era, fans have seen newer powers being introduced, along with some older powers being completely destroyed in the story. One such ability that has lost meaning in the Boruto era is the power of the Six Paths. While it used to be an incredibly useful ability that was most sought after in Naruto, in Boruto it doesn't really mean much because of how the story has handled things so far.
Say Goodbye To The Rinnegan, And Welcome An Even Stronger Eye In Boruto
The Rinnegan has become obsolete in Boruto. This new eye is far better now.
In fact, it can safely be said that the godly powers of the Six Paths have officially died in Boruto, after Naruto had Kurama stripped from him and Sasuke lost his Rinnegan as well. Unfortunate as that might be, it is truly the end of an era for the Six Paths Powers in the Naruto franchise.
The Rinnegan And Six Paths Sage Mode Were The Strongest Godly Powers In Naruto
- Rinnegan Offered The Visual Prowess Of the Sage Of Six Paths
- Six Paths Senjutsu Offered The Vitality Of The Sage
In the Naruto series, fans knew that the Six Paths Powers were the pinnacle of strength that was clearly established from early on in the story. Essentially, the Six Paths powers were a recreation of the chakra of the Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo Otsutsuki. To acquire the power of Six Paths, one either had to combine the chakra of Hagoromo's two children, that is, Indra and Asura Otsutsuki, or be gifted directly by Hagoromo himself.
Apart from the Six Paths, the Rinnegan has another great power. It's the severe Seventh Path, called the Outer Path. Those with the power of the fabled Rinnegan have the power to rule over life and death. Nagato is giving up his life because he trusts you. — Konan to Naruto about the Rinnegan
Different characters acquired the power of the Six Paths in different ways. For instance, Madara Uchiha acquired the power of the Six Paths by stealing a piece of Hashirama's flesh and infusing it into his own body. Given that he was the incarnation of Indra and Hashirama was the reincarnation of Asura, he was able to give rise to the Chakra of the Six Paths and awaken the Rinnegan. This also eventually gave him tremendous powers once he returned in the Fourth Great Ninja War. By becoming the Jinchuriki of the Ten Tails, Madara eventually gained Six Paths Senjutsu as well and became the next Sage of Six Paths of the world.
Then, there is Naruto and Sasuke's case to consider. Both of these characters acquired the power of the Six Paths by being gifted directly by Hagoromo Otsutsuki. At the moment of death, both of them met Hagoromo, and he gifted half of his powers to each, allowing them to fight against Madara, and even face off against Kaguya Otsutsuki. By acquiring such tremendous powers, Naruto and Sasuke became Gods in their own right. Naruto received Six Paths Senjutsu as well as the chakra of the Tailed Beasts. Meanwhile, Sasuke gained the power of the Rinnegan, which gave him tremendous visual prowess. While these powers were greatly coveted in the Naruto series, in Boruto they died a sad death.
Ikemoto Has Killed Naruto And Sasuke's Godly Powers
- The Rinnegan Lost All Meaning
- Six Paths Senjutsu Doesn't Even Exist
The end of Naruto and Sasuke's godly powers came in the arc where Isshiki was the main enemy. In the case of Naruto Uzumaki, he was seen utilizing a power known as Baryon Mode, which, although great on paper, given that it allowed him to reach high levels of power, marked his doom. Naruto's usage of Baryon Mode caused the death of Kurama, and that essentially stripped his biggest power from him. With Kurama dead, his contact with the other Tailed Beasts was also broken off, and he lost access to his Six Paths powers, as far as fans know.
This isn't a tale about a boy who aims to become Hokage. That was my dad's story. This is none other than my story! — Boruto Uzumaki, Boruto Chapter 1
In the case of Sasuke Uchiha, his Rinnegan was directly stabbed by Momoshiki, who had taken over Boruto's body. Essentially, both of these characters lost their Six Paths Powers. With that, the Boruto series killed the godly powers of the Naruto series in a very shocking fashion.
Naruto And Sasuke's Legacy Has Been Ruined In Boruto
While some fans might not like to admit it, the truth is that the Boruto series has destroyed the legacy of many Naruto characters, and at the forefront of that list are Naruto and Sasuke. Ironically, these are the two characters from the Naruto series that have received the most attention in Boruto, but the handling has been terrible, and fans are frustrated about all the changes to this day. Naruto and Sasuke were never supposed to be disrespected by villains the way they were in the Boruto series, and on top of that, they were utterly stripped of the biggest powers that they had worked tremendously hard to earn, and then sealed away just so the next generation was given a platform to shine on.
Say Goodbye To Naruto Uzumaki, And Welcome The New Strongest Character In Boruto
Naruto Uzumaki is powerful, but there is one stronger ninja in Boruto now.
This handling of characters is certainly not acceptable to any Naruto fan, and rightly so. There is no reason for the Boruto series to treat the old legends in this way just because the next generation needs to shine. A talented writer can easily do both things at the same time, or do it in a way where the legacy of the old generation is preserved. Regardless, there is still hope for the old legends of the Naruto series to regain some of their lost grace after their eventual return in Boruto, which seems imminent at this point in time.
Boruto's End Could Restore Naruto And Sasuke's Legacy For Good
Right now, it cannot be denied that Naruto and Sasuke's legacy could be saved in the Boruto series. Once the series comes close to its end, they will have to return. Neither Naruto nor Sasuke is dead at this point in the story, and that means they will have to eventually make a comeback. When Naruto and Sasuke return, perhaps they will be given new power-ups, or their old powers will be restored in some manner. Regardless of which way Ikemoto goes about it, if they are restored to the stature they once held, then fans will truly be delighted to see them back on the front lines.
However, even if they are not given the powers that they so desperately need at this point in the story, fans know for a fact that the end of Boruto would once again preserve their legacy. This is because the conclusion of Boruto will essentially mark the end of a dark era for these two characters, and any new step for the franchise will most certainly focus on Naruto alone. Perhaps, a new story set during the blank period or a remake would once again throw the spotlight on these two characters and allow them to shine. In either case, the end of Boruto is needed for the legacy of the old legends to be preserved and restored, and fans absolutely cannot wait for that.
