This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.
The Boruto series continues to do a flawless job of building Boruto Uzumaki’s character. He initially came across as spoiled, arrogant, and annoying, but the present Boruto has undergone drastic maturation. Instead of running from responsibility and being self-centered, Boruto now shoulders the burden of saving the shinobi world without hesitation in Naruto and Sasuke’s absence.
Before reaching this point in Boruto, our titular protagonist consistently received OP moments one after another. Without these moments, his growth and the impact of his character would certainly feel less significant to the fans. That’s why it’s time to look back at some of Boruto’s OP moments that made him the man he is today. This is also a refresher for Boruto, as the series has come a long way as well.
Boruto: How The Writers Nerfed Naruto Uzumaki
Naruto Uzumaki was extremely nerfed in Boruto. Sasuke received similar treatment.
Taking Out Sasuke’s Rinnegan
One of Boruto’s biggest regrets in life is hurting his master, Sasuke Uchiha. At some point, he lost control of his body to Momoshiki Otsutsuki, leading to the unintended attack on Sasuke. Worse, Momoshiki used Boruto’s body to take out Sasuke’s Rinnegan, leaving him traumatized and haunted by guilt.
Even so, Boruto is the only ninja in the world who accomplished this feat despite Momoshiki’s control over his actions. While it's deeply saddening to see Sasuke without his Rinnegan, it’s impressive how Borushiki nerfed Sasuke with ease. Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee that Sasuke will ever regain his Rinnegan in the manga.
Saving Sarada From Hidari
Hidari is the Shinju Clone derived from Sasuke Uchiha. His target is Sarada, so he came with Jura to Konoha in an attempt to devour Sarada and satisfy his instinct. Since Hidari is Sasuke’s Shinju clone, he can somehow use his abilities aside from sharing the same looks. During Hidari’s attack on Konoha, he nearly devoured Sarada until Boruto arrived just in time to deal with him. Together, Boruto and Sarada fought Hidari. However, the best part of the fight was when Boruto landed a direct hit on Hidari with Rasengan Uzuhiko. The attack may have lost a little of its full destructive potential due to Boruto’s incomplete execution, but it was still powerful enough to slow down Hidari.
Using Byakugan Against Mamushi's Clones
Mamushi is yet another Shinju Clone who’s currently terrorizing Konoha with his Division ability. His clones are scattered around Konoha, trying to find Eida. However, Boruto, as Konoha’s next shadow protector, arrives just in time to prevent Mamushi from reaching Eida and/or killing someone.
At this point, Boruto has already earned Momoshiki’s consent to use his full power without fear of losing control. Hence, Boruto is free to use Momoshiki’s abilities, which include his Byakugan. For the first time in the series, Boruto activates Momoshiki’s Byakugan against Mamushi, giving him the edge he needed to neutralize the clones as fast as possible.
Using Karma Against Kashin Koji
Boruto has a love-hate relationship with Kashin Koji. They had a rough start, with Koji deliberately provoking Boruto by hurting his friends. Not only did Koji nearly burn Konohamaru alive, but he also immobilized Sarada and Mitsuki in their first encounter. He had no intention of getting into Boruto’s good side at all.
However, that moment pushed Boruto to tap into the power of karma for the first time. Seeing his friends hurt, Boruto took out his anger on Koji, absorbing not just Koji’s techniques but also returning them with more firepower. This incident forced Koji to retreat, stunned by the sheer intensity of Boruto’s strength.
Overpowering Code With Rasengan Uzuhiko
There are different variants of Rasengan in Boruto and Naruto, but Uzuhiko is far different from the others. When hit, the effects are so debilitating that they can last until the target meets their end. Unless Boruto rescinds the effects of Uzuhiko, the target has no chance of recovery and victory.
This is exactly what happened to Code in Konoha after Boruto gave him the taste of Rasengan Uzuhiko. This was the first time Boruto unleashed Uzuhiko, but the effects on Code were so bad that he began to see the world twist and distort around him. He was so disoriented that he could not use any technique to counter Boruto, forcing him into a cornered state.
Defeating Momoshiki Otsutsuki
Momoshiki Otsutsuki came to Earth with one thing in mind: eat the planet’s chakra fruit and gain power. However, he did not expect to lose against a 12-year-old who is neither a chunin nor a jonin. At that time, Boruto was just a genin, still finding his place in a world where everyone recognized him as simply Naruto Uzumaki’s son.
Lo and behold, Boruto dealt the killing blow to Momoshiki, delivering one giant rasengan that sealed the Otsutsuki’s fate. He couldn’t have done this feat without the help of Naruto, Sasuke, and the other Kages, but the fact that Boruto was the one to land the decisive blow spoke volumes about his terrifying potential.
Fighting With Jura in Land of the Wind
Jura, the direct incarnation of the juvenile Ten-Tails, is said to be the strongest character in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex at the moment. He has a hostile relationship with Boruto, who has zero intention of backing down despite serious warnings from Kashin Koji. So far, Jura’s reign of terror over the shinobi world continues, but Boruto’s defiance makes it clear that he has found his greatest threat.
In fact, during Team 7’s Land of the Wind mission, Boruto faced Jura in an intense match. Despite his low chance of winning, Boruto did not hesitate to attack Jura with his blade and Rasengan Uzuhiko. While he failed in killing Jura, his performance in the fight served as a warning that Jura’s time was running out.
