This was quite an exciting addition to the story, but it was also a double-edged sword, as it eventually led to the loss of Kurama. Naruto Uzumaki losing Kurama meant that he would grow weaker, and he certainly did. This is officially confirmed by Kishimoto himself in the story. As soon as Naruto lost Kurama, his overall strength started waning and he was left a shell of his former self.

Boruto Uzumaki has an ultimate power up in store, one that will make him surpass Naruto.
Things got to a point where Naruto Uzumaki couldn't even defend himself from the likes of the Kara members, and this eventually prompted Kawaki to take action and seal Naruto away until he dealt with all the major threats, including Boruto Uzumaki.
Naruto Will Return Stronger Than Before

As far as Naruto's official power level in Boruto goes, fans know very well that right now, he's far from being the strongest. The strongest power that he has right now is, undoubtedly, Sage Mode. That in itself means Naruto is far weaker than he was during the Fourth Great Ninja War, unfortunate as that may be.

That said, fans also know that it's guaranteed that he'll get stronger when he returns in Two Blue Vortex. This is simply because Sasuke had already gotten very powerful, enough to take Code's eye from him in combat. Sasuke is canonically stated to have trained during the timeskip, and as fans know, Sasuke and Naruto are always relative, which means when Naruto Uzumaki returns, he will, undoubtedly, be on a level never seen before.
