Naruto Uzumaki is the Seventh Hokage of Konoha and quite easily one of the strongest ninjas to ever exist. Fans know him to be a successor to the powers of the Sage of Six Paths and, on top of that, the savior of the world who sealed away Kaguya Otsutsuki, alongside the other members of Team 7. While Naruto was a legend who etched his name in history in his own story, in Boruto, things have been somewhat different.

Naruto Uzumaki is powerful, but there is one stronger ninja in Boruto now.
Naruto's journey has been quite tumultuous in Boruto, and he has gone on to lose some big powers. That said, Naruto has also gained some other abilities, and one of them is a newly improved version of the Sage Mode. This Sage Mode is stronger than the one he used to wield before, and it certainly sets up exciting possibilities for the future of the story.

When one speaks of Naruto's power in the Boruto series, the biggest issue that comes up is the loss of Kurama. Quite easily, Naruto was the strongest shinobi at the beginning of the story, with Sasuke being his only rival. However, as the story progressed, both Naruto and Sasuke were handled horribly in the story, and eventually, both of them went on to lose their biggest powers.

As far as Naruto is concerned, fans know that he ended up losing the power of Kurama. This happened in the battle against Isshiki Otsutsuki and it was here that Naruto received his last power-up as well. Essentially, Naruto's Six Paths Sage Mode was not enough to fight and defeat Isshiki. As such, Kurama came up with a gamble that cost him his life.
To defeat Isshiki, Kurama suggested the usage of a new power called Baryon Mode, which could only be accessed by utilizing their chakra as kernels for a new form of energy, akin to nuclear fusion. Utilizing this power, Naruto's own energy levels spiked so high that they dwarfed even those of Isshiki, making him the strongest character in history after Shibai. Naruto was able to shave away Isshiki's life before Baryon Mode ran out, and eventually paved the way for his defeat as well. However, this also cost him greatly as Kurama died forever, and this left Naruto severely weakened. Naturally, Naruto needed new powers in some way after the loss of Kurama, and that is where his newly upgraded Sage Mode comes into the picture.

After the death of Kurama, most fans assumed Naruto to be very weak, and they wouldn't be wrong, given that no matter what he did, he would certainly not be able to compete with others on the level of the Otsutsuki. Still, Naruto was getting stronger in his own way by upgrading the powers that he had previously.

In the following arc, Naruto Uzumaki set out in combat against Code, and it is here that he unleashed his new version of Sage Mode. By tapping into this power, Naruto felt he was ready to face the threat of the enemy. Shikamaru was the one who pointed out that Naruto's proficiency with the Sage Mode was not the same as the power of Kurama. To this, Naruto responded by saying that his Sage Mode was far better than ever now, and that with age and experience, he had improved upon this power greatly.
Naruto's New Sage Mode Is Stronger And Lasts Longer
Naruto's Sage Mode right now is far stronger than it was before, and the improvements can be broken down into different ways in which it has improved:
Firstly, Naruto can now access Sage Mode immediately, whereas he had to knead chakra for a while before entering Sage Mode in the Ninja War. Now, he can enter it immediately and utilize this power for a while before it runs out. This is already a massive upgrade because it puts him in his own league.
Secondly, Naruto's Sage Mode now lasts way longer in combat, meaning it doesn't run out as many times as it used to in the original Naruto series.
Thirdly, Naruto's overall strength boost that he used to get from Sage Mode is now greater than before. Even though he did not get to fight against Code using Sage Mode, depriving the fans of the opportunity to truly gauge how strong his new Sage Mode was, it is clear that Naruto was confident that he could fight on a high level with this new power.
Theoretically, Naruto's improved Sage Mode could give him limitless reserves of chakra when utilized properly, because he is absorbing energy from the planet itself. By setting up his shadow clones effectively, as well as having an overall larger reserve of chakra, Naruto's improved Sage Mode can serve as a big power-up in the future. It'll be even stronger if he trains it further.
Fans Hope For A New Naruto Power Up
It goes without saying that this newly improved Sage Mode is great for Naruto Uzumaki, and that it can serve as a decent power-up for him. However, one absolutely cannot deny the fact that it is not enough. Naruto needs to fight against Otsutsuki-level enemies in the future, and if Kurama-buffed 6 Paths Sage Mode was not enough to take them on in combat, a regular version of the Sage Mode is certainly not going to suffice either.
For this reason, Naruto needs a new power, or the overall level of enemies needs to be brought down in the future of the story. Either possibility is real, but it would be better for Naruto to receive new powers, especially given that there is room for it.
For instance, Naruto Uzumaki could easily get a new scientific ninja tool, such as the prosthetic hand he tried briefly, which allowed him to absorb all forms of chakra. If Naruto gains this power, he would certainly be on a completely new level.
On top of this, Naruto could also access other abilities, such as the Wood Release Gekkei Genkai, and then buffing it up with his newly improved Sage Mode would prove to be an even bigger power for him. Naruto could ALSO just seek out the other Tailed Beasts and re-establish his bond with them. In this case, combining this new power with the Sage Mode would make him an even bigger threat to future enemies.
Regardless of what direction the Boruto series takes, one thing that fans absolutely cannot compromise on is Naruto's overall power level, which they believe should be high enough for him to be a respectable ninja in the world. Hopefully, the Boruto authors won't forget his overall importance to the plot and take him to the next level.
