The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 will not have split-screen co-op. This is more disappointing news regarding the Switch 2 port of Borderlands 4, as it seems that the eagerly-awaited game will have way more limitations on Nintendo’s console than on other platforms.
Borderlands 4 was originally revealed at Gamescom 2024. At the time, the title was confirmed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, but it was later revealed that it would also be launched for Nintendo Switch 2. Much is still unknown about the game, but Gearbox Software has already promised that Borderlands 4 will bring new vehicles and traversal tools, with the developers stating that it will be one of the largest and most open-ended titles in the series.

Borderlands 4 Will Not Support Split-Screen Couch Co-Op on the Nintendo Switch 2
Now, Borderlands 4’s official FAQ (spotted by Nintendo Life) has revealed that gamers won’t be able to play in split-screen co-op mode on the Nintendo Switch 2. Fortunately, full crossplay with all platforms will be available at launch. While this is not entirely surprising considering the Switch 2’s limitations when compared to the PS5 or the Xbox Series X, it’s likely disheartening for gamers who wanted to play with friends at home.
This is not the only disappointing news for gamers eager to play Borderlands 4 using Nintendo’s latest device. Last month, it was revealed that Borderlands 4 will run at 30 FPS on the Nintendo Switch 2. This already irritated some gamers, who have complained that the port will have subpar performance on the platform.
To make the situation even worse, Borderlands 4 will be released for Switch 2 on October 3, while it’ll be out on other platforms on September 12. Switch 2 pre-orders are already available, though, and will give players a few bonuses in the “Gilded Glory Pack,” which includes one Vault Hunter Skin, one Weapon Skin, and one ECHO-4 Drone Skin.
When considering the many limitations of the Switch 2 port, it’s understandable that some gamers might be reconsidering acquiring the game on Nintendo’s platform. Earlier this year, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford claimed that the Switch 2 was perfect for Borderlands 4. At the time, the executive mentioned how the Switch 2 could be used to “connect with friends,” and called the console “an incredible machine.” Time will tell whether Borderlands 4 will be a hit on the platform and if the overall performance will be solid.
