Borderlands 4 players can use a new SHiFT code to get three golden keys to use in the game. While this promotion is a good opportunity to get some rare loot, Borderlands 4 players will need to act fast, as this code expires on December 31.

Gearbox Software often releases new SHiFT codes for players to take advantage of. Over the years, the developer has offered the promotion as a way to get additional loot in Borderlands games. With the release of Borderlands 4 in September, players have had a steady flow of SHiFT codes to claim. These can be redeemed for things like Golden Keys, which are used to unlock Golden Chests, and special cosmetics. As players enjoy the holidays, the developer has given out another gift to the community.

Borderlands 4's Player Count Only Matters Because It Pretends to Be Something It's Not

Borderlands 4’s shrinking player count raises a bigger question about whether the series is chasing longevity at the cost of what once made it work.

Latest Borderlands 4 SHiFT Code for 12 Days of Mercenary Day

  • 396J3-6ZJ9J-KRJTW-TJ3BT-XK5H9 - 3 Golden Keys (Expires December 31, 2025)

Ahead of the new year, players can get three Golden Keys by using the following SHiFT code: 396J3-6ZJ9J-KRJTW-TJ3BT-XK5H9. This new code has been given out as part of Borderlands 4’s 12 Days of Mercenary Day promotion, and it could come in handy for those looking to nab some more rare loot in the game. However, players should not delay since the code expires on December 31. This leaves only a couple of days to take advantage of the promotion.

Fortunately, redeeming SHiFT codes in Borderlands 4 is a relatively easy process. Players can visit the official SHiFT website and log in to their SHiFT account or make a new one if it does not already exist. They then should check to make sure their SHiFT account is linked to their corresponding gaming platform. Once that is complete, players must navigate to the “Rewards” section where the code can be entered in the space under the “Code Redemption” header. Besides going to the SHiFT website, players can also redeem codes directly in Borderlands 4 via the in-game SHiFT menu.

It is worth noting that this is not the only SHiFT code that can be redeemed in the game currently. For example, Gearbox Software is offering various other rewards as part of the 12 Days of Mercenary Day promotion. Some other items that are claimable via SHiFT codes include the Winter Borderland Vault Hunter Skin and the World on His Shoulders Skin. Furthermore, the holiday surprises for Borderlands 4 are not finished yet. Several more gifts are likely to be claimable before the end of the year.

The 12 Days of Mercenary Day promotion comes after a major update for Borderlands 4 was released on December 11. With the update, players received free new content, adding more to the endgame. Some highlights included a new difficulty option and Bloomreaper the Invincible, a new raid boss. Besides the December 11 update, Gearbox Software rolled out the Season’s Looting event on December 18 for the holidays. The event increased the Legendary drop rate and runs until January 8, 2026.

Borderlands 4 Has More Content Coming in 2026

While new SHiFT codes and holiday activities help encourage players to return to the game, the development team has more in store for 2026. Specifically, there are plans for a couple of Story Packs, with the first coming in Q1 and including C4SH, a new Vault Hunter for Borderlands 4. Additionally, new Bounty Packs and Invincible bosses are expected to be added, according to the developer roadmap. It will be interesting to see if these future plans for the game can increase the player count, which has dropped substantially since its release.
