A Borderlands 4 player accidentally tosses their legendary weapon over a cliff when finding a new weapon, not realizing that their backpack was full. While clearly an accident, it's an easy mistake to make considering how many guns Borderlands 4 can throw at players, resulting in stuffed backpacks and prompting players to backtrack to sell at a vending machine.

One of the hallmarks of the Borderlands franchise is just how many guns players can come across, alongside other useful items like shields, class mods, grenades, and more. Players can quickly run out of space in thier inventory, especially during the early moments when they have to spend a special in-game currency to increase their backpack size in Borderlands 4. Unfortunately for one player, a Reddit user named Frost-Folk, they didn't see that their backpack was full when attempting to loot a chest full of weapons.

Borderlands 4 Player Tosses A Legendary Weapon Into The Void By Accident

Attempting to give other players some friendly advice in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way, Frost-Folk manages to catch a video of the accidental moment and posts it online. After opening a chest full of weapons, Frost-Folk attempts to pick up a Rare SMG to replace the current rare version that they're using. However, Borderlands 4 acknowledges that their backpack is full by preventing them from simply picking it up, only leaving the "Swap" option available.

At that point, Frost-Folk switches to their legendary SMG, which technically does have worse overall base stats, and swaps it out for the rare loot. Instead of simply dropping to the ground, the legendary weapon is thrown outward and over the side of the cliff behind the chest. Since Frost-Folk was the one to drop the weapon, the game doesn't consider it to be lost. Borderlands 4 does have a Lost Loot function, but it only grabs loot left behind and doesn't work with weapons and gear that have been dropped by players. Ultimately, this means the Legendary SMG is now gone for good.

While the entire incident is unfortunate and more than likely upsetting, the good news is that Frost-Folk will have plenty of additional chances to find more guns, as Borderlands 4 certainly has no shortage of them. Better yet, Randy Pitchford also recently released new Golden Keys in Borderlands 4 which expire on September 16, allowing players to unlock loot after entering the corresponding SHiFT Codes in-game or through the website. The loot is random, but there is a chance, even if it's a small one, to potentially earn some legendary gear.
