Borderlands 4 reveals its long list of features and settings players can mess around with, including the ability to individually set a scaling difficulty level within co-op multiplayer. After years of rumors and teases, Borderlands 4 is finally just days away from its global launch and Gearbox Software continues to drop new details about what players can expect on day 1.
According to Gearbox, Borderlands 4 represents an evolution of sorts from its predecessor, not just by removing the overuse of toilet humor from the story, but adding in more modern and unique features for the series as well. Maps are much larger and more open, adding more verticality and an opportunity to use Borderlands 4's new movement techniques like gliding, grappling, and vehicles. However, gameplay features aren't the only modern elements being discussed ahead of launch.
Borderlands 4 Teases Massive Day One Update
Ahead of launch, Gearbox's Randy Pitchford discusses the day one patch for Borderlands 4, hinting at performance improvements and more.
Borderlands 4 Features Individually Scaling Difficulty
Gearbox posted a big launch page for Borderlands 4, essentially compiling all the features and PC specs players should know ahead of launch. While the PC specs for Borderlands 4 have been mentioned previously, some of the new details in this post surround the available settings players can tweak to customize their experience. The accessibility options in general appear to be extensive, allowing players to customize nearly everything from subtitles, color presets, map zoom speed, movement settings, and more.
Players also have access to different difficulty options, including the traditional Easy, Normal, and Hard. While players can unlock the returning Ultimate Vault Hunter mode in Borderlands 4, the difficulty options can also individually scale when playing in co-op multiplayer. What this means is that players don't all have to play on the same difficulty together as the experience scales and changes on an individual level rather than globally.
While Borderlands 4 appears to be feature rich, not everything is making it in at launch. Previously, Gearbox confirmed that cross-save and cross-progression won't be available on day one for Borderlands 4. Both options are being worked on and are planned to release sometime in the future, but fans will be happy to note that cross-play will be active at launch, meaning players from any platform can play together.
