There's more than just one Vault monster in Borderlands 4. Previous games in the series featured one big alien boss at the end of their campaigns, but in this one, there are three optional ones for players to hunt down and farm for loot.
While they may not be as strong as raid bosses, each Vault monster in Borderlands 4 possesses almost the same destructive power as the story-related Vault bosses from previous games. They're more than just bullet sponges too, which means you'll need to pay extra attention to how they fight if you want to come out on top. This guide covers all the Vault bosses in Borderlands 4, including some tips on how to beat them more easily.
Borderlands 4 May Have Managed to Top Even BL2 in One Key Area
Borderlands 4's marketing campaign is in full swing, and a recent gameplay breakdown shows one area in which the sequel could even top Borderlands 2.
Fadefields Vault Monster: Inceptus
Inceptus is an agile boss who uses his tail and various Corrosive-based attacks to fight would-be Vault Hunters. His size makes him easy to hit, but his thick armor makes him hard to take down. You can find his Vault near Zadra's Backup Plan in the Fadefields.
To enter a region's Vault, you need to find three Vault Key Fragments somewhere in that region.
Inceptus Weakspots and Mechanics
This boss has no weakspots by default. If you want to deal more damage to him, you need to pull his armor plates off with your grappling hook. There are plates on his shoulders and knees, and if you take them off, you'll expose large pustules that will take critical damage from any hit.
Once you deal enough damage to Inceptus, he'll hide inside a cocoon attached on the ceiling and fill the floor with acid. When this happens, grapple onto the lanterns above, then shoot the base of the cocoon for critical damage. If you manage to deal enough damage during this phase, the cocoon will break, and Inceptus will fall to the ground. He'll be stunned for a short duration, but after that, the fight will resume as usual.
Tips Against Inceptus
- His tail stab attack can be dodged by dashing sideways.
- His leaping tail swipe attack can be dodged by double jumping.
- Weapons with Atlas underbarrel attachments are great for hitting his enormous weakspots while moving.
- Bring a Shock and Incendiary weapon.
Carcadia Burn Vault Monster: Radix
Radix's Vault can be found just southwest of Carcadia. Unlike Inceptus, Radix uses electric force to launch huge rocks and create shockwaves and lightning storms all over the arena. This boss is much harder to evade compared to the previous one, and players will need to sharpen their situational awareness if they want to avoid getting hit.
Radix Weakspot and Mechanics
Radix's weakspot is his glowing, red throat, and this is available throughout the entire fight. Just aim for the general area of his head, and you should hit it consistently. Otherwise, wait for him to lift his head, or position yourself properly.
However, try not to get too close to Radix during the fight. He'll slam the ground repeatedly if you get within tickling distance, and the floating boulders around him will inflict massive damage if you collide with them. Mind your spacing, and keep the damage flowing.
Tips Against Radix
- Always be mindful of your surroundings. Keep an eye out for incoming boulders, lightning strikes, and ground shockwaves.
- When Radix launches multiple ground waves, you can use your Glider to avoid most of them, or stand on rocks.
- When Radix lifts a glowing boulder, move away from any nearby rocks.
- Bring Shock and Corrosive weapons.
Terminus Range Vault Monster: Origo
Origo is a wyvern-like monster who can use both Incendiary and Cryo elements in combat. He fights by creating hazard zones that freeze or burn players standing in them, depending on what element Origo is attuned to. Naturally, he is also resistant to Cryo and Incendiary damage.
Origo Weakspot and Mechanics
Origo's weakspots are the crystals on his back. They're fairly easy to hit, but only when he's on the ground since he effectively hides them from your sight when he's midair. You'll want to make heavy use of your Glider when you're fighting this boss.
What makes Origo dangerous is his breath attacks. Not only will those damage you when you get hit, but they'll also leave behind a hazard zone based on what element Origo is attuned to. Cryo will leave patches that slow and damage you, while Incendiary leaves flame trails that deal high damage. You can avoid these by using your grappling hook to expose air vents on the ground. These will launch you into the air, allowing you to glide over the hazard zones.
Tips Against Origo
- If Origo stops mid-flight, he's about to do his dive attack. Dash away at the right time so he doesn't hit you.
- Mind the edges of the arena. Falling leads to instant death. If you fall, you can grapple back up.
- You'll want to stay airborne as much as possible. Pop those vents, and get to gliding.
- All of Origo's health bars are blue, making him weak to Shock damage.
