Borderlands 3  has finally been revealed to the world, and it's only a matter of time before players can get their hands on the next entry of the looter shooter series. However, one Borderlands 3 playable character in particular appears to have a few interesting connections to other members of the Borderlands  universe.

The character in question is Zane the Operative, one of the new vault hunters introduced in Borderlands 3. Zane's full name is Zane Flynt, which some fans of the franchise may recognize as the surnames of two bosses from earlier games, Baron Flynt and Captain Flynt. This is because the three characters are brothers, though not much more is currently known about the relationship between them. Randy Varnell, the managing narrative producer for Borderlands 3,  confirmed the information but wasn't quite ready to elaborate in more detail, stating that the game will reveal more when it releases.

Zane being a good guy while his brothers are bad guys is an interesting circumstance, but Varnell claims that the world of Borderlands  doesn't necessarily have good guys at all.

“Zane Flynt is a mercenary. There’s a lot of Vault Hunters that have those kinds of colorful pasts. Who knows what Zer0 does when you’re not playing him or he’s in the shadows? You see a bit of that there. Zane Flynt has worked for every corporation. You’ll hear some of that story.”

A new Borderlands 3  gameplay trailer was released alongside the reveal stream for any players who are looking for more information about the shooter itself, which appears to be a worthy successor to the previous entries. How the game fares upon launch remains to be seen, but Gearbox seems primed to raise the bar for the Borderlands series.

While the quality appears to be there, that doesn't mean that the game has escaped controversy. Borderlands 3 is an Epic Store timed-exclusive, a move that has upset some fans. However, it seems unlikely that this exclusivity will have a massive impact on the game's financial performance, as the exclusivity contracts are reportedly quite lucrative and prior exclusives haven't seen any major dips in sales. All that aside, fans should start preparing themselves to spend countless hours searching the universe for loot.

Borderlands 3  will release on September 13th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
