Yesterday, a Redditor made a post revealing supposed new details about an upcoming reveal for the highly-anticipated Borderlands 3. Stating it was the "darkest game in the saga," would be revealed June 10, would release September 2018, have single-player, multi-player, co-op, and survival modes, have a season pass with 3 unannounced expansions, and take 25-30 hours to beat, the would be-leaker may have peaked some gamer’s interest. But, for a number of reasons, the image associated with the leak, and thereby suggesting the entire leak, may be false.
The image, depicted below, definitely seems to fit the typical outlandish cartoon-style of Borderlands, but upon further inspection, it’s more likely to be false. First off, the text appears to be ripped straight from the original Borderlands, and the man in the image appears to have a Photoshop filter applied. Moreover, the overabundance of detail with one single leak is also strange, even for a game as massive as Borderlands 3, and the image has similarities to Dark Souls. Check it out below:
Although this image and leak is most likely a fake, there is some solid evidence Borderlands 3 could launch before March 2019. It isn't outside of the realm of possibility that this leak is at least semi-accurate either. On the supposed day of the reveal, Microsoft and Bethesda will be having press conferences, and it's within reason that Microsoft and 2k partnered up to deliver the best Borderlands experience possible. However, this is only one theory, but with E3 only a few months away, something could perhaps be heard as it draws closer.
It's also entirely possible someone invented this information to drive up hype for the game. Even details such as the possibility of microtransactions in the game aren't really enough to hurt Borderland's reputation, so a fake leak certainly wouldn't. It is worth noting, however, that the leak was taken down, potentially by 2k or Gearbox, perhaps giving it some credibility.
Nevertheless, this leak appears to be fake, so many gamers may still be understandably yearning for real news concerning Borderlands 3. While there isn’t a lot out there yet, there is some news for the game such as the Elon Musk-inspired sentient flamethrower, which is pretty awesome. Tell us, Ranters, what do you think of this logo?
Borderlands 3 has yet to be officially announced.
