While it leaked beforehand, new Borderlands 2 DLC was announced at Microsoft's E3 2019 press conference, seven years after the game's release. The Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary expansion looks to bridge the gap story-wise between Borderlands 2 and the upcoming Borderlands 3, and so fans of the franchise may find themselves revisiting the game to see what all the fuss is about.
However, some may not be quite clear on how they can start the Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary DLC in Borderlands 2. Since the game is nearly seven years old at this point, even veteran Borderlands 2 players may struggle to start the new DLC.
Here is how to start the Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary DLC in Borderlands 2.
1. Download the Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary DLC
The first thing players will have to do is download the Commander Lilith DLC by going to their respective platform's store. Please note that the Commander Lilith DLC is only for the new versions of Borderlands 2 on PC and through The Handsome Collection, not the original games on PS3 and Xbox 360. The expansion is free for the first month, so be sure to download it fast.
Once the expansion has been downloaded, players need to boot up Borderlands 2.
2. Use An Existing Character or Boost to Level 30
In order to play the Commander Lilith DLC in Borderlands 2, players need to be level 30 and have completed the main story. If Borderlands 2 players still have an existing character on their account that meets these requirements, then it shouldn't be a problem. However, other players that just want to skip to the DLC have the option to do so as well.
To create a level 30 character in Borderlands 2 instantly, simply go to create a new character, and there should be an option for it. This will also helpfully put players at the beginning of the Commander Lilith DLC. Just be sure to spend all the skill points before proceeding, and remember to keep an eye out for secrets like the Game of Thrones easter egg!
3. Fast Travel
For players using an existing character in the Commander Lilith DLC, they will need to go to a fast-travel point in the game. Then choose to travel to the area called Fight for Sanctuary to start the DLC proper.
Once in the new DLC area, players will be able to complete story missions and try their hand at defeating the Haderax the Invincible raid, though for the latter, we recommend players go in with a full squad of players if possible.
Borderlands 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
