Paranormal Tales is a new bodycam horror game that looks absolutely terrifying in its latest gameplay trailer. Paranormal Tales was first announced last year as a found footage horror game being built with Unreal Engine 5. It takes clear inspiration from Hideo Kojima's PT, though the bodycam angle should help it establish a unique identity in the horror game space.
PT, for the uninitiated, was a playable teaser created by Hideo Kojima as a way to promote his Silent Hills game. Unfortunately, Konami ultimately pulled the plug on Silent Hills, with Kojima departing from the company soon after to work independently. Kojima's full vision for PT was never realized, but the game has since gone on to inspire countless other horror games that have offered more fully-featured gaming experiences.
Paranormal Tales may be taking some inspiration from PT, but as previously mentioned, the bodycam angle helps it stand out. In the game, players are tasked with searching for their lost dog in a dark, creepy forest. They soon find themselves chased into an abandoned house by a ghost-like figure, and it seems things get even weirder from there. Paranormal Tales is leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5 to create a photorealistic experience that should be absolutely terrifying come launch.
Horror game fans may be wondering exactly when they can play Paranormal Tales for themselves, but unfortunately, the game is currently without a release date. While Paranormal Tales doesn't have a release date just yet, though, it is aiming for release by the end of the year. 2023 has already been a strong year for horror games, and if Paranormal Tales is able to deliver its unique bodycam concept effectively, it could wind up being one of the top new horror games of the year.
It seems the bodycam angle may become a new trend in first-person games, as Paranormal Tales isn't the only title to utilize it. Bodycam first-person shooter game Unrecord has been making waves on social media for its ultra-realistic graphics, enhanced by the bodycam angle. Unrecord has proven to be quite controversial because of how real its bodycam footage looks. Paranormal Tales is unlikely to be nearly as controversial since it's not a shooter game, but it will definitely be interesting to see if the bodycam viewpoint takes off.
While horror fans wait for Paranormal Tales, they may want to keep themselves busy with other horror games on the market. 2023 has already seen the Dead Space remake and the Resident Evil 4 remake, with even more horror games to look forward to in the months ahead. Amnesia: The Bunker is releasing in May, while alien invasion horror game Greyhill Incident is scheduled to launch this coming June.
Paranormal Tales is in development.
