There are a lot of secrets in Blue Prince that you can uncover by exploring different parts of the mansion and looking at the writings in different memos and letters, but some are pure trial and error that players need to figure out on their own.
If you go outside the mansion at the start of the day and go to the fountain, you’ll notice a prompt that asks you, "Do you want to make a wish?" This prompt only appears if you have at least one gold coin. Does making a wish give you better luck, or is it just superstition?

What Happens If You Make a Wish in Blue Prince?
Unfortunately, there’s no evidence that shows that making a wish at the fountain will increase your luck when drafting new rooms or searching your drafted rooms for loot. What it will do is create something of a bank for you in the Fountain that you can access given the correct circumstances.
Each day, players can deposit one gold coin in the fountain by “making a wish.” To access it, you need to draft the pump room, where you can play with the water levels in different locations of the mansion and the storage tanks of the pump room to drain the fountain. Once drained, you will be able to pick up all the coins you dropped in it throughout your journey and unlock the route to the Basement, though you’ll need the Basement key to access it.

How to Drain the Fountain in Blue Prince
The process for draining the fountain is quite simple and only needs to be done once, i.e., the fountain will remain drained in subsequent days unless you refill it from the pump room for whatever reason.
To draft the pump room, you’ll first need to draft the Pool room, which adds three rooms into your draft pool: the Pump room, Sauna room, and Locker room. Once you draft the Pump room, you need to do the following steps to drain the fountain:
The fountain is connected to the first pipe, meaning it connects to pump 2 which leads to both tanks, making draining or filling it quite easy.
- First, select the fountain on the pump control panel and then change the lever of the second pump motor to the upward position, starting the draining process.
- Once one tank fills up, go to the tank switch and change its direction to start filling up the second tank.
When the motor lever is pulled down, it drains the tank into the location, and when it is pulled up, it drains the location’s water into the tank. In the neutral position, the motor won’t do anything until its configuration is changed.
- Once both tanks are filled, switch the motor lever to neutral and select a location from the pump control panel that doesn’t have any water, i.e., it shows grey bars in the panel.
- Switch its connected pump’s lever to the downward position, draining the tank of water.
- Once you’ve emptied one tank, switch the pump’s lever to a neutral position and select the fountain on the control panel again.
- Then, change the lever direction upward again to drain any remaining water from the fountain.
Each tank can store 4 units of water, while the fountain has 12 units.
