There are three major currency collectibles in Blue Prince: Gems, Keys, and Gold. Keys are relatively common, while you will find Gold more often than either Keys or Gems. Gems are the rarest of these three resources, but if you know all the tricks and puzzles that reward Gems, you'll have an easier time acquiring them than you think.

What Are Gems For In Blue Prince?

Find Gem Locations Blue Prince Get More Gems Guide Uses Room Drafting Currency

In Blue Prince, Gems are used almost exclusively as a required currency for certain special Rooms. The majority of rooms in Blue Prince do not require any Gems to draft, but rooms that give you a special ability (like the Laboratory), are tied to other mechanics in the house (like the Security room or the Boiler Room), or offer other bonuses like extra Doors (in the case of the Grand Hall) typically need at least one Gem to place.

Most early-rank Gem rooms only require one Gem to draft, but the further you get into the mansion, the higher your rank will rise, and more Gems will be required to place higher-rarity rooms. The Vault, for example, can only be drawn at high ranks in the manor, and requires a huge 3x Gems to draft.

How To Get More Gems In Blue Prince

Draft Rooms That Contain Gems

Some rooms in Blue Prince contain Gems by default, which is indicated on the room tile when drafting. In the early game, there are four rooms you can reliably find throughout all ranks that will all contain at least one Gem:

  • Storeroom: 1x Gem
  • Den: 1x Gem
  • Courtyard (Upgrade): 2x Gem
  • Patio: Spreads Gems in all Green Rooms

The Patio is notable as it doesn't contain a Gem by default, but entering the room will spread Gems throughout all Green Rooms – which does include the Patio. Walk in, look for the Gem that spawns, then backtrack to other Green Rooms in the manor to find more Gems.

You can also find Gems randomly in rooms that do not display a Gem reward on the room tile. For example, there is a small chance for a Gem to spawn in the Guest Bedroom, on a table in the Security room, the Boudoir, and several other rooms. Keep a keen eye out for these multicolored collectibles in every room you explore. Be thorough and explore every corner for a chance to discover more Gem locations.

Scares are important in a horror game, but what these games excel at is breaking up the frights at the right time to introduce some tricky puzzles.

Complete The Parlor Game Three Boxes Puzzle

One of the most reliable sources of Gems in the early game is to complete the Parlor Game puzzle. The Three Boxes puzzle rewards 2x Gems if you can correctly identify which box contains the Gems, but the statements on top of each box can complicate things a bit.

Essentially, there must be at least one true statement, at least one false one, and only one box contains the Gems. If you follow these rules and analyze the statements on each box – and apply a bit of lateral thinking – you'll be able to solve the Parlor Game puzzle and earn 2x Gems.

Purchase Gems From The Commissary & Other Vendors

Like Keys, you can sometimes find Gems for sale at certain shops in Blue Prince. Gems are typically available at the Commissary and can be sold individually or in a pack. Unlike getting more Keys, though, there is no Locksmith equivalent for Gems that only sells this particular item. Because the shop inventories are random in each run of Blue Prince, you may not be able to buy Gems every day.

Find Gems In Special Item Rooms, Like The Closet

A handful of rooms in Blue Prince will contain two to four items that players can pick up. These items are drawn from a pool containing collectibles, tools, and other items in Blue Prince, including Gems. In fact, Gems are quite common in these rooms.

If you get a Closet, Walk-In Closet, or Toolshed, there's a high chance for Gems to be included among the special items. Build special item rooms carefully, though, as they are all Dead Ends and will not be able to connect to other rooms.

Find A Watering Can & Enter Green Rooms

The Watering Can is a unique special item that comes with three charges. If you spend a charge upon entering a Green Room, you will gain 1x Gem. This only works the first time you enter a Green Room, and so far, we have only discovered the Watering Can in the Toolshed, in the outdoor Grounds room that can only be accessed once you unlock the West Gate, but it may have a chance to spawn in other rooms, too.

Open Locked Trunks & Other Containers To Get More Gems

Throughout many rooms in Blue Prince you will come across locked containers like locked trunks. To open these trunks, you need to either use a Key or break open the padlock with a Sledgehammer. Either way, locked trunks work kind of like special item rooms, but pull from a smaller set of items. You won't find a Metal Detector in a locked trunk, but there is a high chance to get Gems and other collectibles like Keys and Gold.

If you are running low on Gems but have plenty of Keys (or a Sledgehammer), look for these trunks and open them to get more Gems.

It's not a good idea to open locked trunks with Keys if you are running low on those, as you won't be able to unlock doors that are more commonly locked than not at high rank. But if you have an abundance of Keys or a Lockpick or Sledgehammer, there's no reason not to spend a few opening locked containers that you discover.

Constellations Can Grant Gems, Too

Every time you draft the Observatory room, your Star count will increase by one, and different constellations will appear in the sky when looking through the room's central telescope. If you draft the Observatory four times, you will get the Diamondus Minor constellation, which rewards +1 Gem. Later on, after drafting the room eleven times, you will get +5 Gems all at once with the Diamondus Major constellation – quite the bounty.

As you continue to make attempts, advance through the days, and draft the Observatory to raise your Star count, you will eventually start to discover multiple constellations at once. Because of the way this works, the more you draft the Observatory, the more likely you are to discover Diamondus Minor or Major alongside other constellations for other bonuses.
