This week, Bloodborne and Dark Souls developer FromSoftware released a VR game called Deracine. The game is a sort of adventure title that allows players to explore a boarding school frozen in time. While the game is a massive departure from the tough action games that FromSoftware is known for, fans say that it still manages to tease Bloodborne 2.
The supposed Bloodborne 2 teaser comes in the form of an item that Deracine players can interact with. While playing the eerie VR game, players will come across an object called the Fiona Doll. Players are able to interact with the doll using the prompt, Make Contact, which appears to be a reference to a Bloodborne character called The Doll. When picked up, the Fiona Doll also moves like The Doll, with hands stretched in the air.
That's not all, though, as the doll is accompanied by a curious description. According to the description, the object is "a doll of the stone girl Fiona who appears in the unfinished tale." It continues, "When a person has a bad dream, Fiona appears and helps them flee." Fans think that the use of the phrase "unfinished tale" is FromSoftware's way of telling them that Bloodborne 2 is on the way.
Players have also uncovered a book titled "Blood&Bones". The title on the front cover of the book is written in the same font as the Bloodborne logo. Again, this has led fans to think that FromSoftware is teasing Bloodborne 2.
However, this could also be FromSoftware's way of tipping its hat to Bloodborne fans, rather than purposefully teasing a sequel. The original Bloodborne has sold millions of copies and so it's reasonable to think that many of the people playing Deracine will have played that game too and would, therefore, get the references. But that doesn't mean that the studio is actually making Bloodborne 2; this could just be a standard Easter egg.
It's understandable why fans are so quick to believe that FromSoftware is teasing a Bloodborne sequel, though. Fans have been asking for a follow-up almost since the first game was released back in 2015. So, when FromSoftware didn't make a Bloodborne 2 announcement at E3 2018, many were disappointed and began to question when or if the studio would ever unveil the unconfirmed game. Amazon listings for a sequel also stoked the fires, but nothing has come out of this speculation yet.
Deracine is available exclusively for PlayStation VR on PS4.
