A modder has gotten Bloodborne to run at a native 1080p resolution at 60 FPS on the PlayStation 5. The From Software classic has been stuck on the PlayStation 4 with bad frame timing and a 30 FPS cap ever since it first came out, leading fans to believe for years at this point that a remaster could be just around the corner.
Of course, there's no official Bloodborne remaster of any sort currently announced, but that hasn't stopped the game's community from theorizing about Sony's plans for it. Some modders have even managed to get the game to run at unstable, uncapped frame rates, but one recent development trounces everything shown yet.
Despite all the leaks and rumors about a Bloodborne remaster, the community isn't currently privy to any such official projects, leaving modders such as Lance McDonald to pave the unofficial way forward via modding. McDonald's latest Bloodborne gameplay video is by far one of the most impressive, as he has managed to get the game to run smoothly at 1080p/60 FPS on the PlayStation 5. What's particularly notable here is that there's no additional upscaling being performed, meaning that the game is running at a native 1080p resolution and with what looks to be a perfect 60 FPS cap.
Lance McDonald is a known PlayStation modder, having worked on disassembling the legendary PT demo and its many features in the past. He has also done a lot of work on discovering the ins and outs of Bloodborne's own codebase, leading to a far better understanding of what's going on under the game's surface. McDonald hasn't provided much information on how he got Bloodborne to run on the PS5 as well as it does, but his fight with Father Gascoigne is nothing short of impressive.
Though there's been some evidence of Bloodborne coming to PC, it doesn't seem like either Sony or From Software are currently all that interested in the IP. This has led to a situation where every new mention of Bloodborne is treated with suspicion and hopefulness in equal measure. But it is worth highlighting that Sony is holding its course when it comes to launching older PlayStation exclusives on PC, so it's not a total impossibility that Bloodborne might also get ported at some point down the line.
In fact, some believe that Sony's announcement of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for PC may have paved the way for Bloodborne on PC as well, though it's also worth pointing out that there's nothing to officially suggest that this might be the case. All that the Bloodborne community has to go on right now is a precedent of Sony pushing its games onto PC years after their PS release, and little else.
Bloodborne is available now on PS4.
