Blood of Heroes pitches itself as Dark Souls meets For Honor, and both inspirations are clearly visible from its announcement trailer, as medieval warriors face-off in PvP arena battles. The game is set to release on both consoles and PC, but for those interested in trying the game out sooner rather than later, players can sign up for the PC closed-beta right now.
Developed by Vizor Games, a studio mostly known for its mobile and social games, Blood of Heroes will see the developers debut on PC and consoles. "We wanted to make a game that we'd absolutely love to play ourselves: a wicked, adrenaline-pumped world, inspired by Dark Souls, with unforgiving PvP battles and warriors who show no pity or fear," explained Game Director Dmitry Voronov.
Blood of Heroes' battles take place in a medieval nordic arena, and the Dark Souls' inspiration is clear in the design of the world, as the environments feature rundown castles and constructed wooden platforms. The game sees players select from different fighters to clash with each other in brutal and visceral PvP battles. The For Honor inspiration is clear in the game's combat.
However, Blood of Heroes seems to focus on magic abilities as well as hand-to-hand combat, and, according to the developers, the combat will also feel familiar to Dark Souls fans. The PC closed-beta begins on May 4th, 2021, and anyone interested in trying the game out can sign up to join in now for what could be a highly anticipated game.
In the closed beta, players can choose between six different fighters, each with a different playstyle to learn and master. Some fighters focus on speed and delivering quick blows, others on using area of effect and ranged skills, and a few will absorb multiple hits before dealing out their revenge. In terms of game modes, the beta will include group battles, similar to For Honor, and one-on-one battles, and both will require players to learn different strategies and develop their skills.
When talking about Blood of Heroes' fighters, Dmitry Voronov says, "Blood of Heroes, just like in history, heroes are not always knights in shining armor who fight for the greater good. They can be relentless, sly, vengeful, or, vice versa, supporting and protective."
While Vizor Games is open about the influences behind Blood of Heroes, the game clearly has its own identity, which will allow it hopefully avoid the mistakes Dark Souls' clones commonly make. While no official release date has been announced just yet, it is definitely worth keeping an eye on Blood of Heroes. Many people still play Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Dark Souls 3 for their multiplayer, even though these games are designed around single-player first. So, a game built for PvP using similar combat to the Souls games could be exactly what players are waiting for.
